In need of some advice please mums. Due to give birth in 12 weeks and still unsure about which pushchair I should buy. Had my heart set on the silver cross surf but heard its not the best for a newborn can anyone offer any advice that has if possible had one or used one please. Thank you.

My SiL loves hers. She says its great for newborn as the carrycot is huge. It's not ideal for newborn if you don't get the carrycot.
I went for the iCandy peach as it has a bigger basket and I preferred the feel but from what I've heard the surf is a good pram.

Thanks for the reply was trying not to have to buy the Carry cot but you have pretty much said what everyone else has about the pushchair. I loved the I candy to so much choice really is confusing :) but thank you.

I've got a silver cross surf and used it with DD from newborn I've been very happy with it. I used the carry cot attachment when she was very small or for short trips just clicked the maxi cosi car seat onto the chassis.

I got it because it's light and pretty rugged. Not designed for off road but it coped with the beach and dunes very well before I wised up and got a second hand instep for taking the dog for a walk with It's great and will do till she no longer needs a buggy which justified the expense for us.

Ok thank you :) best thing I think is to try it ! Have been told with the pushchair baby nest the baby sits pretty much on top of the pushchair which was what was putting me off !

I had the surf and loved it. Was devastated when I had to sell it once dd no longer needed it. There aren't many about where I am however there are loads of icandys. I had the carry cot and it was very spacious. Always got lots of compliments too

The baby nest does really sit on top of the pushchair seat and I have to say I didn't like it. The baby feels reall exposed and the way the side straps go under the newborn seat insert cuts into the baby's legs. Its much better to get the carrycot TBH.
The Surf has the weirdest unfold ever - its like a seesaw too and fro until it clicks into place. My two major bug bears were the seat - the chassis is tiny folded but the seat is rigid and rounded. It simply fills the whole car boot up. The second was storage - the baskets are piddly - really tiny and TBH with a child of any age you need somewhere decent to put drinks, food, coats, hats, toys, your handbag, purse, phone, keys and for this reason the Surf didn't last long with us. Lovely pushchair, huge seat, but not all that user friendly. There are a lot better choices of pushchairs out there.

I also have my heart set on a Surf despite the sales assistant in Mothercare highlighting everything she dislikes about it! They are bringing out a 2013 version in 'spring' with a bigger basket - there is a video demo on the Silvercross website. They won't give an exact date of release though! I have read good and bad reviews about it but have read good and bad reviews about every pram out there & think it comes down to what you like/suits your own needs best etc. Good luck!

I have the surf. Didn't bother with the carry cot and had no problems at all.

I hate our surf and can't wait for our new double to arrive.
It was ok with carry cot when DD was tiny but no storage at all, rubbish in any kind of leaves or mud.
Seat is crap for older child, they just slide down so almost hanging by crotch. Keep having to hitch her up
DD not even 2 yet and is too big for it with apron thingy on.

I have the surf & love it. Have to say we didn't have the carrycot & coped fine without it. The newborn nest was nice & snug & the straps are adjustable so there's no need for them to cut in. They're not newborn for long anyway.

As for the basket it is on the small side but unless you need it for your weekly shop it's perfectly adequate. I pop everything I need into the changing bag which slides over the handles. You can also buy bag hooks which hook onto the handles for lightish bags.

I think it's pretty good value considering all the extras you get with the surf. Friends who bought different pushchairs ended up paying for parasols, rain covers etc. I also had the Ventura car seat which clips onto the chassis. Came in really handy when DS was little.
