Fake Bugaboo? Help!(38 Posts)
Hope that one of you experts can help as am quietly panicking that I have been well and truly 'had'. I have just bought one of these bugaboos (hope link has worked below - very new to this!) and a friend has just said is far too good to be true, so must be a fake.
Does anyone have a clue about how I find out? I paid on paypal yesterday so presume I could get money back at the moment? Or should I wait for it to arrive (been told 15 days), hope for the best and then deal with it if it isn't real? AGGGHHHHH!!! What have I done?!

Hmm.. the seller has 100% positive feedback which is a good start.
are you sure that the pram is new - there are several pictures - the yellow and the red one look used.
do you know if any of the pics are actually of the pram you have paid for? or have they just googled several pictures.
Did you pay with buy it now? In which case you are entitled to a refund now or when it arrives (if you wait till its posted, you wont get postage refunded though)
Are there really pushchairs that cost 600quid
I'm not sure that it is definitely too good to be true.
It is cheap, but when I bought mine 2 years ago there were some on eBay atva similar price to this.
My only concern is that all the photos are different.
Email the seller and clarify which photo is the pushchair you have paid for - and if any of them are actual photos, or if they just nicked them from google.
It cant be all of them!
I think I would ask some more. For example unless the seller is an official Bugaboo dealer then Bugaboo won't honour the warranty. Ask if they are returns. To be honest, right now I would maybe research the seller a bit and continue with the sale. Paypal and EBay are 99.9% on the buyers side. So should you change your mind, as long as you keepthe packaging / repack as new there should be no problem with a return. I bought my Chameleon for £350 brand new with loads of extras from a catalogue photography shoot two years ago so there are bargains to be had. See what you think when you get it. But be aware the warranty may be worthless unless they have a proper non EBay shop.
You have all been amazingly helpful, thank you so so much. Just emailed the seller to see if she can send me some pix of actual pram etc. I'll sit it out and see what I think when it arrives. The only other things I noticed was one of the photos, although it seems a generic one, has 'cameleon bugaboo' written which seems an odd way round. Although this may jsut be a random photo nicked from the internet somewhere. Thanks again, and I'll let you know any developments!
I dont think its to good to be true really, not totally up on bugaboos but with any product you will always fi a good deal if you do some searching.
Youve done the right thing imo, see what the seller comes back with as regards to what exact one youve purchased.
It doesn't seem ridiculously cheap. You can get them for £675. If it was about £500 then maybe that would be suspiciously cheap, but not at £600.
I can't see where it says "cameleon bugaboo" and I've looked closely at the pictures.
I personally wouldn't be that concerned about whether the pictures are of the actual pushchair or not, after all you can buy from John Lewis and you're not seeing the actual pushchair you're buying.
The only things I'd be concerned about is what colour it is because it doesn't actually say, you just assume it's red, and the warranty as GuildfordNanny said.
I'm sure it'll be fine. It says they accept returns but if it's fake and you can prove it, you'd get your money back without having to post it back.

Heard back from seller as follows:
Bunnyboo - Just wondering if you had been able to track the parcel at all as yet? I am planning on having some friends to stay while I am on holiday, and need to make sure my dates tie in with the delivery etc.
Also, will the courier wait while I unpack the pram to check it etc? If not, will this effect returns if there is anything wrong etc?

seller - hi there i have sent you a refund as seller and decided to take a 2 wk holiday not happy so cannot take orders at min really sorry
So, all in all really disappointed.
Money not showing in paypal as yet, but guess from all the correspondance I'll have no problem there.
I may yet get lucky in my search! Just can't spend £770 on a new cam, however much I want one!!!

Make sure you get your money back! You can start a claim through paypal if the money isnt there asap.
If refund had been issued it should have been showing in your account with immediate affect.
I would contact both eBay and paypal and express your concerns if your money hasn't showed up in your account yet they are claiming to have refunded you. I would be telephoning not emailing at this stage.
With a reply like that I'd start to worry if there was ever a pram in the first place! Do keep an eye out for your money returning and let us know

It's good you followed this up and didnt just wait! Don't worry about your money - between EBay and Paypal you will get it back but you could open a dispute case if it's not back say by the end of tomorrow and speed things up. You have proof there that a refund has been promised. Good luck and Zi hope you find another.
Take the refund. I'd but a 2nd hand cam tbh, most bugaboo owners keep them in pristine condition. Ask on the pram sales board if anyone selling one.
Ahhh the plot thickens! got home today to find a delivery note saying a parcel had been left next door.
Picked it up, and low and behold, it's the bug! Anyway, having opened it up, I am 99% sure it is a fake. It 'smells' funny, REALLY plasticky if that makes sense. Also the materials and finish is not what I would expect of a premium brand like this. Although I haven't owned one now for 4 years, I expect the changes aren't this significant! It also has been shipped directly from China - bit of a give away I would ahve throught!
Having spoken to both paypal and ebay last week about refund (told to give seller to this Thurs) I found them pretty useless to be honest. Paypal was better as it was a scottish man who I could at least understand what he was telling me to do. If it is a fake do I have to repackage it up and return? Does anyone know? Don't really want to incur such a cost especially for a product that under no circumstances should be resold as it could be unsafe. Not sure what my next move is. Any ANY advice would be so welcome. Haven't contacted teh seller again as yet. Thanks again for bearing with such a numpty who has had her fingers well and truly burned. So annoying especially as I can't afford to buy another one until this has been resolved. Waaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!! <stamps foot>
Can you post some detailed photos? I am sure there have been enough Chameleon owners here to have a squizz and give opinions. Also have you photos of the box? Can you find the chassis number? For a standard return you would have to pay postage back and even if you went through rthe dispute centre you may incur return costs too. I would try your hardest to work out if it fake or not first because then I suspect you have a better case, not least with trading standards.
I believe eBay take the sale of conterfeit goods very seriously and I'd say it's likely you won't have to send it back. But definitely be sure it is fake first.
I have contacted Bugaboo and they confirmed that the serial number matches about 100 others so therefore is definitely counterfeit. Emailed seller to tell me how she intends to resolve it, but not holding out any hope. The package came from China, so I really hope I am not going to be made to pay for a return there.

I think at this point I would phone EBay direct and get them involved TBH. They have a telephone number if you look online. Good luck!
I should imagine the police might be involved? Sale of counterfeit goods is illegal - and I don't think you need to return counterfeit goods in order to get a refund. I would doubt very much that is what needs to be done!
Please telephone eBay / Paypal!!!
Paypal surely guarantee all eBay transactions - so provided you have proof the goods are counterfeit - Paypal should pay you back the money (they must be insured for this!) while eBay pursue the prosecution of the seller.
