Silver Cross 3D and Upstairs Flat ... Advice please!

Currently expecting DS2 in September and will need to buy a new pram. Quite fancy the Silver Cross 3D, have tried it out in the shop and it's pretty nice. Also will need a buggy board for DS1 as he is a nuisance when walking.

However, I live in a flat over a shop, so I'm just trying to work out the logistics, and I'd appreciate advice from anyone who owns one.

Ideally, I'd like to leave the wheel part of the pram at the bottom of the stairs and take the pram bit up if DS2 is asleep. Does it work like that? Can I unclip the pram bit easily like a carry cot? Do the wheels fold up easily? I'm not very strong and my first pram I had to leave up all the time as i just wasn't strong enough to put it down. Wasn't an issue then as we had plenty of room to store it.

If I'm barking up the wrong tree, can someone recommend another pram that would be better suited? I'd like a lie-flat, parent-facing one that i can put a buggy board on that si quite common (so I can get it second hand on ebay!)

I owned one.

It's rubbish, really heavy and awkward, especially after the first six months. Although you can take the lie flat pram bit off you won't be able to carry a baby in it like that. It isn't solid and doens't have handles iyswim. Also near incomprehensible to fold up.

I really honestly wouldn't.

hi there, I have this pram and I absolutely love it. It isn't complicated at all once you get the hang of it, but I have to agree that I wouldn't buy it in your situation. It is very heavy and although it has a pram it isn't really 'detachable' in the sense you can lift baby and all out to carry upstairs. You need something like the Urbo carrycot and chassis from mamas and papas I would suggest. Something that has a proper carrycot on it.

I'd probably get a Bugaboo Cameleon if I were you. Here are the completed listings on eBay to see how much they go for. They're really light, you can use the carrycot on its own and they're easy to push.

Ooh, this is my specialist topic (as I live in a 5th floor flat with no lift).

How about the Cybex Callisto or Micralite Fastfold/Toro? Both are only parent facing for the carrycot stage, but with easily removed carrycots (more so the Callisto) and easy to fold wheels. The Micralites bump up stairs like a dream. Or for a heftier but parent facing option, have you considered the iCandy Peach?

Or a Baby Jogger City Mini with carrycot? The one handed fold could be useful when you have a toddler and stairs?

Agree, the one handed fold on the BJCM is amazing and my friend who lives in an upper maisonette swears by it. Easy to push and a roomy basket too.

BTW there is a new four wheel Baby Jogger City Mini on the way plus Baby Jogger make a Glider board that is also due in the UK soon.
