phil and teds doubles questions

I have a phil and teds classic twin (side by side like a traditional double pram).

Now my son is a bit older, i am trying to encourage him to walk more and i think hes a being a bit lazy sometimes.

I am wondering about getting a P and T sport or similar on ebay- thinking that if its a bit harder to get in pram he might not bother. Also- think we are getting to point of not needing proper double buggy.

Questions i have are

  1. does the older child sit in bottom or top?Do they really fit in that space?

  2. is it very hard to get in and out?

  3. are they easy to fold- do you need to take off the bottom seat? is it easy?

  4. I am average height- are they comfy to push? does it feel v heavy with 2 kids in?

    Finally, would you recommend? Thanks!

the heavier child is supposed to sit in the front and the back seat has a weight limit (I think 15kg)
It is not very hard to get in and out
With both the sport and E3 youhave to take the rear seat off to fold but I think you don't with the vibe
Yes they are great to push and I have managed (5ft4ins) with 2 toddlers in it - it is pretty smooth. the sport has adjustable handle bars

I would recommend it is a double buggy and a single buggy and was gutted to sell mine but my toddler was too big to get the raincover on when set up for a toddler and newborn.
hope that helps

I have one.

When ds was 3 I started childminding and he's get in and out of the back seat occasionally on the way to and from nursery.

I've always put the bigger child in the back as they were more likely to get out to do a bit of walking.

thanks mogs) thats what i want to do- bit of security if he needs the pram but not too easy for him to jump in! was there enough room for him to sit comfortably under there?

Yes, there was and he was quite long for 3 aswell. I look after a 3 year old now and he fits in comfortably but hasn't been able to have a nap in the back while the seat is reclined for quite a while.

I'd recommend one as mine has been invaluable. DD was 17 months when DS was born so I needed something. She is now 3 and at nursery and hey presto we hav a single pram with LOADS of luggage space!!

I always used to have DD in the rear once DS was old enough to change the toddler seat to the rear as she was at the age where she wanted to walk, but now at nearly 3.5 she finds it too much of a faff getting in and out and usually gets stuck. DS also likes the seat to be slightly reclined (ie with the top buckle undone) and that limits the space in the back.

folding is easy enough, but unfolding is a bit of a faff and I've yet to manage it without either scraping the handle bar or front fork on the ground, so wear and tear on those is a problem.

I'm 5'2 and haven't had any problems pushing it; adjusting the handlebar downwards brings it a little bit closer. And yes, it's heavy, especially now DS is 2, but it steers really well and is easy to manoeuvre so seems much lighter than it actually is.

It was also invaluable last winter in the snow; when pushers of little wheeled prams were struggling, we just rolled straight through!

I wax lyrical about ours to any poor bugger that shows the slightest interest in it Blush so would heartily recommned.

we did have some issues with the seat units ripping around seams, but the original ones and the 1st replacement set were replaced again without question, so customer service was excellent. It was a bad batch apparently.

thanks lacks. am really tempted, but not sure DH will agree to spending dosh on another pushchair, and if i try the argument that it will be useful just in case we have DC no. 3 he might just keel over and die.

One more question if you can help- whats the differnece between and E3/ sport / vibe?

will prob get one on ebay so are parts interchangable? Thamks!

afaik, the E3 is now marketed as the classic. The sport was the next generation on and is essentially the same, except for an adjustable handlebar and the seat fabric on the toddler seat has a recline mode.

The vibe has a bit fancier livery and an aluminium frame, and can be folded with the toddler seat insitu.

I looked at the vibe when buying mine, but couldn't justify the extra £200 it would have cost. I also don't think it looks as nice.

They all hold their value pretty well, so even if you bought one 2nd hand, you could probably sell it on for not much less than you paid for it (good argument for DH there Wink). I was tempted to sell mine, but it still gets used every day so will hang onto it for another year!

I've not seen one myself, but there is a vibe copy on the market made by OBaby. A friend bought one and she loves it. It's a good couple of hundred quid cheaper than the vibe iirc Smile

some of the E3 and sport parts are interchangeabme but the vibe is totally different. We had a sport doubles kit on an E3 with a perfect fit. The cocoon fits in both but the fastenings are different so you can't secure it as well as you should.

I'm aiming to get another Phil and teds but due to the new explorer being out, which is slightly out my budget the sports are disappearing fast, trying to get in right time somewhere and get a discounted one, anyone heard of any bargains anywhere online or otherwise? My local moth care has shop floor ones left only but are hardly discounting them at all at the moment, keep stalking them to see if they suddenly reduce more! Due to sell existing buggy soon so need replacement lined up. Winstanleys best so far but am always up for search for best bargain!

Hi no as far as I can tell no more sports! The explorer has quicker fold, padded seat and hood on doubles bit and easier release brake and it's way more expensive, reckon ex display model best way to get a bargain but its getting them to discount it enough otherwise will just get a new sport if I can.
