Safe stairs to our attic

We've a great attic space and would like to turn it into a den/occasional guest room. Its floored already and we put a skylight in it. Apart from that it will need a lot of work. We can't afford to have a legal extension done and we wont be here forever so we'd be happy with just an attractive additional living space. Since our kids are v little we would'nt want a ladder to access it. Is it possible to get stairs fitted without having to get them removed when we sell the house?
Advice please.

I think you can get stairs fitted but it would be against building regs as you have to have a means of escape in the case of a fire and all that needs to be checked. Why not do it properly now? It would make your house much more saleable when the time comes, you don;t have to have all the bells and whistles

We'd love to do it properly but our budget is lean. with the property market as well I'm not sure how sensible it is to invest more money in the house. I looked for stairways online but most seem to be just ladders. I'd like a proper carpeted stairway but would it be worth all the hassle if we had to remove it when we leave? If I thought we'd be here for 10 yrs I'd go for it but we might move somewheere else in the next 2 years or so.
