Have you claimed on home insurance?

What did it do to your premium the following year(s). I've never had to make a claim and am trying to decide whether to do it through the insurance or just replace the item myself as it's not a huge amount over our excess, though still more than we could do with spending at the moment. Am I going to take the hit with higher premiums in future years if I claim? Any thoughts appreciated

We claimed for burglary total claim less than 500 quid - no effect on premiums but then I do often change insurer on renewal
