Who's right? Me or DH? **** POLL ****.

We badly need a new front door on our Victorian terraced house as the old one is so warped it lets the air rush in.

We both want as nice a door as possible, in character with the house and the road, but need to keep costs as low as possible as we are broke as usual.

Here are the two sides and, in the name of impartiality, I won't yet reveal which is mine and which is his.

Argument 1. A reclaimed Victorian door would be the best idea as it will be cheaper, nicer and more in keeping.

Argument 2. A new door is the only way forward. An old door is too risky and likely to be just as warped as the one we're getting rid of.

Cast your votes please.

Argument 2

Number 1 for me.
The wood will have weathered and warped all it is going to do.

1: check for possible warping (that stick with the bubble thing) before you buy it.

  1. and paint it red because I like red.

Argument 1 I think. More in keeping with the property and will keep costs as low as possible. When do we get to know which side belongs to whom?

The 1s are inching ahead so far.

Is it really cheaper to buy an original? isn't it a load more faffing getting it to fit properly etc?

I would and have done number 2 with a reproduction in keeping.

Sagacious that would be a spirit level?

I will soon reveal which is my argument but would like a few more votes if poss.

5/3 in favour of 1 at the moment.

So I'm winning.

I'd go with 2. (as long as it was a new reproduction)

1 here too, new doors are often badly made and far more likely to cause problems ime, better off going with a nice weathered origional

Argument 1 (I decided before reading whose argument was whose)

Either way I would say that unless you get a new frame at the same time there is no guarantee the replacement will be totally draught-free [have spent a fortune and am still chilly emoticon]

I would go for 1.
Also agree it should be painted red.
