Moving laundry/utility room to garage

We have a really big laundry room (11 feet by 16 feet) with big windows overlooking the south facing garden. It's a waste really. We also have an enormous double garage with access from inside the house that we don't really use, apart from storing wellies, wine and tools.

I am thinking that I might move the laundry/utility room to the back of the garage and put down an oak floor and make the room overlooking the garden into a nice little sitting room or a study.

There is plenty of room in the garage to fit in 2 cars and have the washing machine, drier, sink, cupboards and worksurface in there. As we never put cars in there, it seems a really good idea for us but I'm wondering whether people who do put their cars away at night might be put off.

Would it put you off a house if the laundry room was within the garage? We could wall it off.

as long as it was nicely done (eg not shoved in their, ie with a nice sink and floor etc and walled off. i suppose there might be an issue with exhaust on clothes drying... and would clothes dry when it is really cold and damp.

but 11 feet by 16 is to big to waste... so i think i would prefer a nice study or something. some one on mn has a "craft room" which I would LOVE.

We are shoving the utility room into the garage at the moment. The old room has been extended and faces the garden, so was too good to waste. Haven't got my new bench and sink yet, but DH is on the case and am really looking forward to better use of our space.

Think it depends where you're planning to dry the clothes.

Also, with the washing machine at the other end of the house, will you remember to empty it? I wouldn't!

Our utility is a section taken off the back end of the garage. It is walled off and there is a door into the garage.

The other door in the utility leads into the kitchen.

I only have washing machine and tumble drier in it. I have 2 wardrobe poles in there that I hang dh's shirts on etc and it all dries naturally, on a good windy day I just open the door into the garage to let the air circulate round.

We don't park either car in there as we have ample parking on our drive.

It is only a small minority of people who still park their car in a garage.
