School catchment areas

Anyone bought a house that is not within the nearest vicinity of good schools but still managed to get a place at the good school for your child/children? I am in despair at not being able to find a home even though we are prepared to make compromises.

Thanks

the house we lived in was definitely outside the catchment area for one of the best secondary schools in the borough and our daughter was given a place at the school as was our son (but on a sibling basis) last year, Another girl on the road was also successful though and she had no siblings there. However the catchment area does have a high proportion of families whose children go to private schools or grammar schools and this years intake is substantially more local - some siblings cant get in. I guess this is due to the economic climate.

Thanks Jampot.

Anyone else have any encouraging words?
