Need inspiration for colour scheme for bedroom.

Right girls (and boys), DH is going to get someone in to decorate our bedroom finally after 18 months of being here - I have told him it looks cold and unwelcoming and of course I don;t feel like it is our little playground (I am using all my tricks to get him moving on this one!).

So I need some inspiration. The room is about 25 foot by 20 foot, it has a feature sort of on each wall - one wall has a fire place on and a door to the ensuite, two other walls have windowns in and the last wall which our bed is against has a few beams in it and a medieval panel with prining on it which is listed so we have to leave that. The ceiling sort of comes down the walls a bit into the room - sloped IYKWIM. That would be white so we could probably go for a darker colour than would normally be used.

We have cream furniture, a big silver framed mirror and a dark wood bed.

So I want something rich and warm, nothing too modern as our house is very very old and not blue or green (it is a vile wishy washy green at the mo and I hate it).

Do your best am up for anything really just want to make it more welcoming and cosy.

We have just done ours.The walls are a deep plum colour stone carpet and teal raw silk curtains.There are original cupboards in white eggshell and we have really thick wood white blinds.White bedlinen and a huge plum teal and stone cashmere blanket.It is lovely warm and cosy but still stylish and modern looking.We have a big fireplace too.The rest of the house is very white si this is a real contrast

Do you have any snaps noddy - that sounds lovely?

I would keep it quite plain and make the most of the beams and the medieval printed panel (which sounds wonderful). In my mind's eye, the house is 14th/15th-century so I would keep it simple and speak to someone about the sort of paint you can use - if it is very old plaster, normal emulsion might not be suitable. Are the floors wood as well? I would, as you say, spend a lot of money on soft furnishings and fabrics and - providing the floor was in good nick - just leave that uncovered and give the walls a lick of something pale. Pile up the fabrics - lots of different layers and colours, forget about the walls.

Its pale at the moment lalalonglegs - pale green and it looks very cold.

We have carpets as the floorboards are so old they have huge gaps in and I think we need carpet to keep the warmth in.

Sadly the previous owner has wallpapered most of the room and we really don't want to go through stripping it as the horse hair plaster and lathe will most probably crumble.

I was hoping to spend lots of DHs oney on soft furnishings though - I though maybe gold and cranberry but the Laura Ashley Cranberry colour is far too dark me thinks!

Grateful for any other advie though - I may even get around to talking some photos tomorrow when DS is at school so please keep the advice coming.

Well, green can be a cold colour but plenty of other pales and neutrals that aren't. Shame about the floorboards - I'm not a huge fan of carpet so, rather unoriginally, I would say go for something pale and uninteresting there as well.
