We are thinking of moving to Epsom/Ewell/Ashtead area with 11yr old, 13yo and 8yo. Have also thought about Bookham/horsley area (various school applications pending will force a decision).

What is is like for teens in these parts, do they head for Epsom, Guildford, London? Do they like village life with access to a town at w/e? If you live in Ewell for eg do they have a local social scene?

I lived in Epsom in my early 20s and it was boring as hell - a long time ago so maybe it's changed. Went out in London a lot.... Frankly I wouldn't dream of moving to a village with teenagers. Is Guildford a possible option? Seems to have a lot more going for it... I am a city person though (but grew up in the country) so maybe different if you and your dcs like a quieter way of life!

I live in Epsom but only have an 11mo! Ewell is very villagey and quiet, couple of shops and that's it. Epsom is a short bus ride (or a decent walk) away and there is a shopping centre (moderate, not talking Bluewater here!), cinema, loads of restaurants including Pizza Express and McDonalds and there are always loads of teenagers around but never in an 'in your face' way. They seem quite tame round here .

Very easy access into London from both Ewell and Epsom, there is a direct train to Waterloo and from Epsom you can get to London Bridge and Victoria as well. I really like it here and have no plans on moving. I think there's loads for DD when she's older.

I wouldnt tbh. Its outside the London area so buses/trains cost a fortune compared with living within the London boundary. Epsom is a bit boring too. Train connections are good tho. I'dbe tempted to either go for further out or further in tbh.

when you say further out, how much further exactly?! By further in do you mean Esher? Epsom is not getting a v good write up in any of these threads, if its not the travellers' camp then its boring, no one has much to say praise of Epsom!

So far Ewell or Ashtead seem the best options, accessible for girls and boys schools and close to various towns. I really like Guildford but no boys schools except RGS.

Does anyone go to CLFS - is it poss for 11yr old ds to commute to/from Guildford?
