Carpet fitting question... doing all bedrooms in one go

We're having carpet put in all three bedrooms on Friday. And the stairs and landing.

Now, each room has to be clear of furniture but we just can't clear the whole first floor in one go.

So, we'll have to clear one room for them to start in and put stuff in the other bedrooms. Then it's all going to have to be shifted around.

DH has got to be at work, so there's me and my mum (and DS who's 7).

Will the carpet fitters be nice people who help do this for us? Or are they going to get shirty with me?

Crystal ball anyone? If you know a carpet fitter, what would they do? I'm feeling a bit worried about how on earth we're going to manage this.

Any other top tips for sorting this out?

When I got all my carpets fitted (the whole house) in one day the fitters were quite obliging. They let us clear one room at a time and helped move furniture around. I think most fitters are fine about this, but if you're not sure call the company providing the fitters and double check. plus good tip stand on guard with the hoover because you'll want to hoover the mess before putting the furniture back!!

I think they expect to have all the rooms clear, but may offer to help you do it for a fee.

When we had most of our house done, we had it done over two days, so that we could move the furniture around. It still wasn't easy. They tend to charge by the room, so it doesn't cost extra for two visits.

Carpet fitters work very fast, and you wouldn't be able to shuttle the furniture between rooms in the time it takes them to do one room.

I'd phone and ask. The ones we used would do it (for an extra fee) but didn't do it as a matter of course. We found it easier to do landing and 2 bedrooms on one day, 3rd bedroom on another day.

I would phone and ask. Friends of ours had problems because they assumed they would be able to move the furniture between rooms. The fitters weren't very pleased.

If there is more than one of them, they may be expecting to do two rooms (or more) at the same time. For example, they may send a team of four of them to get the whole job done in a half day. Please phone and check.

They moved bunk beds for me and all of DD's furniture now I think of it, they were very good, from Carpetright if that helps at all.

Our invoice stated clearly that all rooms had to be cleared and if you expected the fitters to do it there would be an extra charge.

When we had all the bedrooms done at once we cleared most things out but there was nowhere to put the bulky things - beds wardrobes and chest of drawers. We just emptied the wardrobes and drawers so they were as light as possible and the fitters shifted them from one side of the room to the other as the laid the carpet down. They didn't charge any extra.
