Can s single parent move house by renting a van?

Do you think I can manage it? I will be fine with all the boxes etc, am just worried about shifting the washer, dryer and sofa. Do you think I could do it if a friend helped for half an hour? We are moving two roads away! The van is £28, but I have been quoted £550 by a removal co!

I moved 80 miles with a van hired for the weekend, and my parents helping.

If only round the corner, then definitely. But get a big friend (or two) to help.

Yep, I helped my cousin move house (i was the van driver). It took us all day but we did it!!!

i would advise to hiring a transit van (under £100 plus refundable depositi) and getting a team of friendly lifters in to help.

usually we move house this way, and can get everything in 2-3 van loads. (we have 3 kids). this time, we are hiring removals company as neither dh and i are in a position to lug furniture about.

Can you get a 'man with a van'?

We got one in Edinburgh when we moved with no car.

Only £50/hour and money well spent because we only needed about an hour and a half of his time.

They won't let me hire a bigger one as I'm under 25, but apparently you can get a washer and dryer in the back without putting the seats down . Also have a car, so can whizz a lot over the night before (we get the keys on the 1st) xx I have no friends with dps (gosh that's embarrassing!) but have a few strong lifting friends!

Man and vans are v cheap, I must admit-we used one last time and I was suitably impressed, but lost their number!

Look in the back of the local paper for a man-n-van.

Ooh, I've got a renault trafic-I rang and was allowed one of those! And have two guys to give me a hand-thank you all for your wonderful advice-I may use a man and a van yet!

Get one of those things on wheels to load the washing machine onto and wheel along (sorry, don't know the name of them!). If I remember, they sell yellow ones in IKEA!

I'd say that you'd need your friend for more than 1/2 an hour though. Remember that you'll need to load the sofa, washing machine etc. onto the van and then off the van and into place in the new house. I'd ask them if they could help you for a few hours????
