What do you do with rubbish when moving?

Just a practical question. What do you do with normal household rubbish when moving? Our bins are only emptied once a fortnight. Is it acceptable to leave a small bag of household waste in the outside bin or do we need to factor in a trip to the dump?

Both times when we have moved recently, the two bins were full to the brim.
The last time, the previous owners had obviously put their children in to jump on the top to compact it.

We put a small amount in the bin but also asked a friendly neighbour if we Could put some in theirs so that we left the bin about 3/4 empty

We took most of it with us. Luckily we had just had a big collection a couple of days before.
Took it with us, then took it to the dump.

I always get a small skip, it really helps with the packing stage as you can bin everything that you don't want to take. Get it collected the day before you leave, then you only have the rubbish from the day.

We always leave our bins empty, with a trip to the tip on the way to the new house. We seem to always arrive to bins overflowing with rubbish, so I think that either would be normal.

Ours were full too, but we were weekly collection. Not much else you can do on moving day, after the umpteenth tip run.

Why do you have so much stuff that's good only for throwing away? It seems like either you had an inexplicably large amount of rubbish in your home, or you wasted a lot of perfectly good stuff because you didn't have a use for it in your new place.

Maybe a better solution for you and the planet would be to give away (or failing that, sell) the things you don't need before you move?

I'm not sure, our only move the previous owners actually stole our bins (they moved fairly locally) which was an absolute pain for us! So by all means leave a little rubbish but I would try not to leave too much.

I had to leave them as they would normally be. U have to book slots here for the recycling centre and we couldn’t get a slot for the week we had between exchange and completion so didn’t have any choice.
