Packing

We are hoping to exchange by the end of this week with a completion date of 2 weeks after. We are hiring a van & my partner is getting his friends to do the heavy lifting. When should I start start packing? Should I start boxing up stuff from the bedrooms (2 bed maisonette) now or just do it the week before completion? I'm getting a little anxious about how much needs to be done. TIA

We move in 4 weeks and have been decluttering and packing for the past 4 weeks- the decluttering takes longer than you think so would start now!

Definitely start now. Gives you time to drop of stuff at charity shops / recycling center etc
There will be lots of things you can pack and will not miss for a few weeks.

How big a van? If you are selling and buying then you won’t get the keys to the new property until you’ve emptied the old one.

Definitely started packing now and declutter as much as you can.

I'd start now (to be honest I'd have started weeks ago). Pack anything you won't use in the next month, and get ready to pack stuff you will. Throw out anything you aren't taking.

I think we're getting a luton van. Most of the big furniture is going to be sold/disposed before we move (double bed, wardrobe, sofa, table & chairs as they're extremely old & we're getting new furniture) so the biggest items to go in are my daughters cot bed, kallax unit, tv, fridge/freezer, washing machine & general contents.

Thanks, I'll make a start now.

Start today! I'm moving in 18 days out if a rental into a house I've been renovating for months. I've done many trips to the tip, have given rooms a deep clean already and got the teenagers to clear the crap their unwanted stuff. Anything you can do today will make move day that little bit less stressful.

Having seen how professional removal people pack and load vans I wouldn't even contemplate the hassle of doing it myself! The speed and efficiency with which they do it is worth every additional penny IMO.
