What brand kitchen appliances

I'm in the midst of sorting a new kitchen.

DH wants all Bosch - hob, oven, integrated microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer.

Howdens are trying to flog me their range 'Lamona' which is cheaper...but are they as good?

I'm not stuck on Bosch, but I don't want a brand that won't last or is rubbish like my current (bought for short term) Indesit fridge that heats everything up if you hit the 'boost' button

What brands would you reccomend?

My washing machine, fridge freezer, kettle and dishwasher are Bosch. I'm happy with them.

Neff are meant to be good as are AEG or you could try John Lewis own brand if you don't want Bosch.

We had a Lamona induction hob and dishwasher in our last house and they were shit. About to redo our current house and I’m going for Bosch

Or possibly Neff. Currently have an older Neff double oven and it’s very good. Bang on temp, cooks evenly, heats up quickly. We also have an absolutely ancient Miele dishwasher - from the 80s or 90s and it’s amazing - cleans really well and is quick (although probably awful in terms of energy efficiency).

Neither. Never buy appliances from the kitchen company, will be heavily marked up. Currys or AO and organise delivery a week before the kitchen arrives.

Most new stuff is built to fail so pay as little as possible and don't buy guarantees.

Not the crap the places like B&Q/Howdens have. It's all the cheapest stuff to make their kitchen look like good value.

I wouldn’t go with Lamona. My Aunt has their stuff and she’s not impressed. Not taking budget into consideration, Miele/Neff/Siemens/Bosch would be my favoured brands in order of preference.

Miele are significantly better in terms of quality. Their dishwashers are very very quiet but you pay for this level of engineering.

Failing that Bosch. After that Siemens. AEG are Electrolux and repair calm outs are poor. We are Miele for everything except fridges which are Leibherr. Just go German and never ever own brands which really don’t enhance your kitchen or the value of your house.

Does DH want to save money but doesn’t use the kitchen much? Don’t go along with it!

We are slowly replacing all our kitchen appliances from cheap ones to Bosch/Miele ones and the difference is amazing. I think you get what you pay for with this type of purchase.

I have a Neff hob and ovens. Bosch dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier.
All very good. I did have a Beko washing machine but it didn't last long. I think it's worth spending a bit more to get long lasting appliances.

I have a Neff fridge/freezer and I hate them. My Neff dishwasher I've had to replace twice (after two repairmen couldn't fix it and one machine went back to the manufacturer for fixing and still didn't work properly). All these sold to me through the kitchen company, who turned up their noses when I declined yet another Neff or bosch washer and dryer and went for Beko. So which is the workhorse still going strong? The Beko. (My third dishwasher is a Beko and is great).

White goods are a bit of a racket. More expensive might just mean more fancy features to go wrong. Any brand at all might sell you a lemon.

We've had good use out of Bosch fridge/dishwasher/washing machine and Neff ovens. Hob it depends what kind - induction?

I love Miele appliances. They're expensive but they really do last. We're not very well off but I bought a second hand Miele oven off a friend (who is a professional oven cleaner) for £50. It was 7 years old when we had it and this was 5 years ago. It's the best oven we've had and the best £50 I've ever spent! I also had my Mum's old Miele vacuum cleaner. She bought it in 2012, I had it off her in 2017 and it's still going strong.

A friend has just had a new kitchen and got Lamona white goods, she is not happy with them at all.

I have mostly Bosch and find them good but my dishwasher is NEFF (same company as Bosch) and it is shit and regularly breaks down.

Agree on choosing German brands if you can afford it.

There’s a Neff oven that has a self-clean water and high heat pyrolytic (not sure about the spelling ) clean function. It is really useful. So if you can stretch to that whatever model and brand it actually saves you time and money and keeps the oven clean. And you don’t use those noxious oven cleaners.

I couldn't afford Miele appliances for my first flat, I also didn't want to over invest in it, so I bought Bosch appliances - and everything is still working well 8+ years later. (It's now a rental).

We recently bought a house where it could be worth investing in Miele appliances, but given how well the Bosch appliances performed in my flat I might stick with Bosch but get a Miele washer and dryer only.

We have Smeg where we are now and they're very pretty appliances but performance is so-so. We may have been unlucky though.

If I had to choose one Miele appliance it would be the dishwasher. You barely know it’s in which is desirable in an eat in kitchen. Open plan - it’s vital. Second choice would be the washing machine. It’s a supreme workhorse.

My Leibherr fridges are 20 plus years old. The freezer is the same. I don’t expect any issues with these alliances but they don’t have bells and whistles. They work, are well built and last!

With Bosch it depends on the range. Their cheaper ranges are cheap for a reason but their higher numbered ranges are usually better quality.

If you can afford it Miele are a good investment and their lower priced range has the same build quality as their more expensive products though usually less technology.

I would look at the features you need. So does your oven need hide & slide (neff) or Pyro to make it easier to clean?

Samsung are always worth a look as they do long warranties for the money.

As a number of others have said already, we also went with Miele - once we would afford it - and the quality and performance has been superb.

This - also excellent advice upthread to buy second hand if you can. We bought Miele washing machine & tumble dryer from the sellers of our first flat 20 years ago - they were 3 years old then - washing machine gave up about 5 years ago (I was disappointed with that tbh but in retrospect I should have tried harder to get it repaired). Tumble dryer still going strong (hopefully not jinxed it by saying that!), although I only use it for towels and emergency drying.

I have miele ovens and microwave oven vombi now. Previously had neff. Id say i preferred how neff cooked but did have to have the element repaired in one of the neff ovens after a few years (it wasnt much). The miele are a heavier build if that makes sense, its good if you want that feel). Same for hobs. I have a neff fridge. Hate it. Miele fishwasher gets used easily 2-3 times a day and is 11 years old do thats good. washing machine is Siemens top range and is very 'well loved' about 9 or10 loads a week minimum for 11 years still fine i previously had a cheapie hotpointn bargain basement and it did the best washes ever. I left it after 5 years in perfect order, same as my cheap CDA extractor. As a rule I'd get german appliances but there's sone leeway but definitely not much. In terms of the actual items you have to largely go with your preference for aesthetic and specific features.

Our washing machine is a 'Hoover', it was really good value and is still going strong 11 years later with heavy use. I definitely recommend it.

We have:
A Lamona integrated dishwasher - never had an issue with it.
A Bosch fridge/freezer - fine
A Bosch washing machine - had it repaired once in the warranty (I can't remember what was wrong with it...) and my husband had to fix something else that came loose and rattled.
A Stoves Oven/Hob - ok, when we light the gas job it sometimes goes out straight away and we have to relight it, not an issue. The oven bit is fine.
