Hello,

Has anyone got a Solidor and is happy to say approximately how much it cost?

I’ve made a few enquiries through their website where they connect you to a local supplier. All the quotes for different styles of door/glazing/hardware come back just under £2k including VAT.

Is this the going rate with your local suppliers too?

I’ve looked at other suppliers of composite doors and nobody seems to have the same quality of finish and colour/style options that Solidor do.

Wonder if there’s any benefit to approaching local suppliers/fitters of Solidors directly rather than making the enquiry through the Solidor website?

I’ve got a solidor (about three years old) and a brand new rock door.

They’re both great, the both cost around the ballpark you’ve been quoted.

I think the rockdoor was a whisper cheaper but if I was forced to pick a favourite door, I’d pick the solidor.

I used local suppliers in both cases. No idea what, if any, difference it made.

I have two recently fitted via a fitter, I’m very happy with them.

Front door is solid black and has two satin Glass side panels, it was from memory, £1280.

Back door is half glass which is clear and was around £950.

I don’t really know if that’s similar to other fitters as we had other work done at the same time but from what I know from others it was pretty competitive and accurate.

That screenshot of the front door says clear glass but it is satin. I was originally going to have a small rectangular glass panel in the middle but changed my mind for a solid door, that panel would have added £70 to the cost. So depending on how much glass you want will effect the price

Ahh okay, so it’s probably my choice of the fancy stained/leaded glass that’s bumping the price up?

It’s a 1930’s property so wanted something in keeping with the era, but maybe I could moderate my choices to a half way point for both beauty and price, haha.

We have a 30s house too, have the Solidor London door with stained glass. We had it fitted as part of building work - from memory about 4yrs ago it was £1200 or thereabouts supply only.

Our was a Solidor Ludlow with a door knocker, lock, letter flap and opaque plain glass with a bevelled edge. It was £1350 fitted abound 4-5 years ago. It was in a rental house I no longer own but I drive by a few weeks ago. It’s still the best door in the road!

The choice of glass will definitely be impacting the cost. Depending on what you’re looking for, maybe clear glass or a simple satin would still give you the right look.

It won’t be to everyone’s taste but I’ve fallen in love with the lavender colour with the brightly coloured Dorchester glass and gold coloured hardware.

Although I’ve seen a few IG posts with the Chartwell green door in a matching frame and think those look very smart too so I would consider that but with different glass.

I’ve just had a google and found a lot more local suppliers of them, so at least I can approach them directly and I’m not stuck with the company that Solidor sent my enquiry too. Some of them don’t seem to supply the luxury colours though.

I got one fitted last week. It's the flint with diamond window. It cost £1250 that was for a different colour on inside to outside of door, traditional handle, letter plate and door knocker. Very happy with it so far

I’m gutted I looked at this thread now - I really wanted a door where the top panel was that size but couldn’t find any at the time 😭

Never mind. I’ll know where to get one in 25 years...

I’m really not sure if it includes fitting as the quote doesn’t break it down, I would bloody hope so since the purchase price of the door itself seems to be about £1200.

Lavender?? Don’t devalue your house! Grey is far more chic. With polished steel hardware.

We got one 5 years ago and it’s been really good, will use them to replace our side door when we get round to it.

Only thing I do regret a fair bit is getting grey, it was just before half my local area got the same and it’s really boring and ubiquitous now. i’d be really really sure that you love the colour and will feel the same way in a few years.

We got one about 5 years ago and paid £1800 including fitting - small, local company in South Norfolk. We absolutely love it. Feels super secure too.

I won’t post mine because I don’t want to out myself but I have a solider purple front door (darker than the lavender) and it’s gorgeous! We have a Victorian house so slightly different design to yours but it fits
The house perfectly. We have a few post men / women who do our route and whenever I have to answer the door they tell me how gorgeous it is

Mine was fitted by a local supplier and it was around 1800 if my memory is correct!

I’m so glad I went with the sore tho it’s a thing of beauty and great quality

Sorry pressed post too soon.

The current grey fad strikes me as being for people who follow trends and don’t necessarily have their own vision for their home.

Grey and stainless steel doesn’t really scream 1930’s to me.

The house I’m buying is going to be my forever home, and so I’m not making decor or interiors choices with an unknown future buyer in mind. My new street has lots of beautiful brightly coloured front doors, including a lime green door on my next door neighbours house.

OP that colour choice is lovely - a bit out there but with the stained glass window, it will be beautiful. I wish I'd been braver with my colour choice (I have grey and I certainly don't think it looks "chic" - more like sheep !)

I grew up in a house with a purple door and never needed to tell anyone my address, it was just the house with the purple door. 😀
