Short Term Rental

Like to know if anyone has ideas for short term rental for 2-3 months and anyone did it. We don’t have family/friends option.

Most rentals are minimum 6 months.

if this is England, no sane landlord will rent to you for less than 6 months due to the rental laws. You can move in, pay nothing, trash the place and even in normal times an eviction notice cannot be issued before 6 months. There is now a hold on evictions for less than 9 months arrears, or 'no fault', so it is going to be even more difficult to find anywhere.

Airbnb or holiday let are your only options.

sorry, forgot this is MN - should add that I don't for a moment assume you would be the tenant from hell, but landlords have no legal defence against such now. This is causing huge problems for the normal tenants who are the vast majority.

We tried (and failed) to find a short term let. The only option was AirB&B which would have a cost a fortune.

Thank you all. So it’s AirB&B or holiday let. Anyone done this? I know it will be more costly. Any good websites for holiday let? Also re: rentals I was hoping a landlord would be happy to get some rent coming in rather having a property that is vacant

Maybe rent just a small place for 6 months. It might be cheaper in the long run. Offer to pay the total cost upfront (maybe even ask for a small discount for that).

We are under offer and solicitors are about 6 weeks in our buyer is first time buyer and we are actively looking for onward home but not good ones or much coming into market. Our buyer will accept 2 months between exchange and completion.

Have you googled short term let's for your area?

They do exist but can work out quite costly.
Our 10 week short let cost the equivalent of a 6 month tenancy. It was a weekly rolling contract, all bills and council tax were included.

Worth checking the specific terms for each estate agent.

We're moving into rented next week as we couldn't make the chain work.

It's a 6 month contract but we can leave at any point before then by paying landlord's fees for a new tenant which is less then a month's rent.

You can offer full rent for a 3 months let, if you could find a landlord with an empty property (many student properties aer available due to students studying online atm), so he would not be 'getting no rent'. Some letting / student lets agents have such clients so worth ringing round letting agents in your area.

I don't think they'll be worried to rent to you because you are not an unknown / a tourist or student who can just up and leave a trashed place - so I think some postres aer being dramatic - you can show them the documents / memo from your agent that you've sold your house and are looking to buy, so hardly a dodgy risky tenant! Also you can provide good personal / work refs. Defiitely try that before Airbnb, it may be more expensive than standard rent but much cheaper than holiday/airbnb.

If you are in a city / large town, there are also LOTS of empty flats up for sale that are not shifting, I don't know if you'd be happy to let people view (it won't be many ) but if you could, I bet they will give you a good deal on rent.

We’ve done air bnb for 2.5 months worked out very good value vs 6 months let.

No @Mollyeyes i know a couple of landlords who are leaving their properties empty because the exposure to risk since March has more than quadrupled. They are waiting to see what more changes to the current law look like before either withdrawing from the business or reassessing their risk with a positive outcome. Unfortunately the Government have created a pretty awful situation for both tenants and landlords alike.

We've been in an Airbnb for coming up three months now as our house sale drags on and on. Value-wise, it's worked out better than a short-term tenancy, even though we have had to extend the stay twice now. Our host has been really good and we have been taking good care of the house so everyone is happy. (Or as happy as we can be without a completion date on the horizon!)
