Talk to me about non-silver sinks/taps

My house does not suit stainless steel and silver coloured things. Does anyone have either copper or black sinks or taps? Or copper splash backs? How are they? Do they show dirt???

Anyone got a black composite or granite sink?

If you want a black sink I'd suggest you add a water Softner to your shopping bag too.
I have black taps and shower in my ensuite and a black kitchen tap with white China sink .

Thanks @waitrosetrollydolly . Do you live in a hard water area? Our water isn't hard so I'm wondering whether we'll get away with it.

We have a black composite sink. It was installed more than ten years ago, and it’s held up surprising well considering we have slightly hard water (London) and we had tenants living in the house for 4 years. It has gone a bit white if you look at it closely, but doesn’t look dirty or worn.

If you employ a housemaid to polish them more than twice a day, copper or brass are good choices.

@PigletJohn that would be someone like me then Grin

I have gold taps. And yes I do slave over them rather a lot.

But God do I love them Grin

My one regret is that I didn't get a black tap for my kitchen sink. The brass looks good but my god it needs to be polished 3 times a day!

If it makes you feel any better, I feel black would have been a massive mistake from an aesthetic point of view. The brass is a far superior choice for your style/colour scheme!

Got a little side tracked there...

OP, just to throw another idea out there, how about pewter/gunmetal? Pic attached for reference...

Ok. Got the message that we don't have enough staff to look after a copper or brass tap! That pewter looks interesting.

And black is still in the running given that our water isn't hard.

We’ve got a black s8nk, not our choice, but it’s fine. Not hard water. The plumbing merchants we used for bathroom said go for chrome. Everything else is hard work and there’s a reason mostly people have chrome.

We’ve just had a black composite sink put in. It’s bloody scratched already but I’m hoping a good buff with wood silk will bring it up. We have a dishwasher so barely use it, I think it was the kitchen fitter but he’s denying blame.

I’ve got a copper boiling water tap and it’s beautiful. It doesn’t need a great deal of polishing. It’s sort of matte looking. I’m also looking at back splashes/tiles at the moment.

I should also point out that my brass tap has scratches on it too which I suspect was by the chap who installed it with my sink as I can't see how I would have done. That said, it's only noticeable when you're really up close.

Any idea if these can be 'buffed' out?

This is mine, halfway through the kitchen fit. It made me so excited to use it 😂. I don’t like the chrome caps/plugs though. The plugs aren’t so bad as you don’t see it, but the cap thing on the sink drives me mental. I think I might spray paint it black.

@Em8725 Where is the scratch?

Mil had a copper sink. It looked beautiful but was such a nuisance to keep looking that way that she only used her inconvenient utility room sink. The look of something, particularly something as fundamental as a tap and sink is much less important than its function.

@Smallgoon mine is scratched on the draining board. I’ve bought a copper draining board stand to cover it up though. It’s like a big white gouge through the draining board 😭

I have a black dink, live in a hard water sea and it looks lovely after 5 years. I think black taps would be harder. You can’t use bleach on it.

Matte Black kitchen tap here in London, hard water area. Few years old now & holding up well. Little limescale around the base but to be fair I've never tried to address it Grin
