Any experienced plumbers about?

Just had the shower room refitted (we have another main bathroom)

Anyway, there was a waste pipe (vent) going into the loft with a durgo valve and due to lack of space in the shower room we had the wall knocked back. The vent pipe was cut down to fit in the wc unit and existing durgo valve was put on there (plumber said it was fine to do this as there is another vent going to the outside (in the other bathroom). There were no smells when he had cut the pipe off and was working on the bathroom.

I've now noticed nasty smells which I think are coming up through the shower waste when we get up in the morning 😕 it seems fine during the day when we are running taps/flushing loos etc. I'm so upset, the bathroom is virtually done (the plumber has done all his bits just got decorating to do) clearly there is something amiss. Could we just need a new valve? Or do we need to have this vented to the outside? In which case we will have to have the bathroom taken apart again 🤦‍♀️

Obviously I will be contacting the plumber but just wanted a second opinion.

it might be that suction in the waste is sucking water out of the shower trap. Try pouring a cupfull of water into it from time to time.

This can happen in stormy weather with strong winds but I think from what you say is more likely connected with the durgo Envy

Possibly it is jammed with age but it will never be as satisfactory as an open vent at roof height.
