Roof issue with neighbour

I live in an Edwardian semi, next door is a pensioner who doesn't have a lot of money, we generally get on fine, but dont chat a lot. Their house is v in a bad state of repair, I've had no issue with this, but now their lack of roof tiles are causing leaks in my house. I've had a couple of roofers to look and they say short of tiling a fair part of the neighbours roof, theres not a lot I can do.

I spoke to the neightbour and explained the problems that their roof is causing to my walls and leaks into bedrooms. They were apologetic but said theyve no money to get it fixed. The neighbour said they would think about selling it, but I've seen no signs of this. I only bump into the neighbour every few weeks, next time I do I will mention it although I know they suffer from mental health issues so I'm trying to be careful.

My question is; are there any legal steps I can take to make them get their roof repaired? Would anyone else (council/charity?) be able to help them? Should I contact my house insurance? Has anyone else been in this situation? It's hard because I need to stop the leaks into the kids rooms, but I cant afford to tile their roof..

Contact your home insurance.
We had this issue and our insurance sent an assessor out, saw the neighbours roof was causing the problems in our house, and sent the report to their insurance.
Our neighbour had to get it sorted it pretty sharpish after that.

Interesting, thank you, it's good to know you got it sorted. I suspect the neighbour doesnt have home insurance, maybe my insurance would deal with the neighbour direct.
