Bromley area guide please

Hey All,
Looking for a confirmation on the area where we have just viewed and liked a house. We had actually had an offer accepted on a property in bexleyheath but that chain fell through and we have had to start all over again. This time though, we have seen a property right next to Perry Hall primary school in Bromley/Orpington. Would anyone have an idea on how that area is? I have been advised by the lovely people here to stay away from the Crays so was wondering if this is not near any such place. We have two young ones DS is 5 and DD is 1 so hopefully the school is good and had space for DS them to go there as well. Thank you again for the help.

Hi, the area is a good locale if you don’t need to walk to the station Perry Hall is highly regarded as a primary school. Secondaries you might be close enough to Ravens Wood if a boy but otherwise you are looking at grammars to avoid the less desirable schools but a lot can change if you DC are just at primary age.

Hey @PettsWoodParadise ur advice has been so helpful. I got my offer accepted on a house at clovelly close (br6). I am asian so wondering if the area is multicultural. Also just to confirm the area is not close to crays right ? And is the house in Nice safe place to grow a family ?

Also I would need to commute to canary wharf for work and its says its approx 16 min walk to station so I am guessing its not too bad ?

It is a long walk to the station from there but that is the compromise to get something affordable, you are very near the lovely Poverest Park and Covert Wood. Yes a train to Lewisham and change to DLR or to London Bridge and Jubilee Line will both get you to Canary Wharf. You are not near the Craya. Orpington is in zone 6 but Petts Wood is Zone 5 just in case you were looking at commuting costs.

The area isn’t hugely multicultural compared to say inner London, but there are lots of backgrounds all around. In Petts Wood There is a mosque that runs from the Memorial Hall, there is a shop that sells Indian food, fireworks go off during Divali, we see lights on the odd house when there is a Hindu wedding, there is a Chinese families reading group. Orpington has a Polish food shop and an oriental food shop. Orpington college has a lot of students from a large variety of backgrounds too. I suppose I’d call it ‘quietly diverse’ as opposed to hustle and bustle diverse.
