What is your dream home?

Mine is a cottage in the mountains, with a wood burning stove. I grew up rurally so know all about the noises of the countryside, and the dificulties of lighting a fire and making sprigs with tightly rolled newspaper tied in a knot.

Partner loves the city though, and as neither of us drive it seems unrealistic. Recently one came on the market, just outside our city, and within fifteen minutes walk of a bus route, but it's too expensive and too small, but it also is achingly lovely.

The one I had to sell three years ago after my relationship ended. 1920s 4 double bed semi, huge garden, larder, garden office, many original features, built in library, coal fire and super lovely new kitchen and bathroom. In a small fishing town on the south coast near to three amazingly vibrant cities

Oh @BlueBoar I'm sorry. My Mum once said losing a home was like a bereavement. I was furious with her at the time because I was far younger and we had experienced bereavement, but now, with years and insight I kind of get what she meant. It wasn't as bad as losing a person, but homes and people and feelings all seem interlinked, somehow.

My parents left my childhood home quite suddenly after the death of my youngest brother, and I think that those losses are strongly interconnected and maybe why I yearn for the countryside.

Your home sounds like a dream. I'm sorry.

I would just love a beautiful house like the one they have in Catastrophe. In a lovely part of London like Fulham or Hampstead. I'd be so happy. But as I'm not a millionaire I don't see that dream ever coming true.

My actual dream house has enough bedrooms for us and guests. A craft room for me. Lego room. Gaming room. Cinema room. Small cosy lounge as well as bigger lounge for when people visit. Big, light and airy kitchen/diner, indoor and outdoor pools, library, secret passageway from my bedroom to the library.

My dream house would be Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire. An Elizabethan house that was in its time an amazing architectural achievement and the most modern house of its time built by Bess of Hardwick. It has the most amazing staircase and gallery. Plus I'd like to imagine I was Bess. I like Derbyshire too.

A grand Victorian townhouse / terrace with steps up to the door. High ceilings, a black and white tiled entrance hall and a beautiful staircase with spindled bannister. Also a chandelier over the doorway. Lavish but cosy decor, heavy curtains and a log fire in the lounge. Roll top ball in the swanky bedroom.
