What did your sellers take or leave you with that surprised you when you moved I

When we moved in we found out that the Sellers pulled coat hooks off the walls, took the bathroom mirrors, every lampshade, the washing line and EVEN the washing line post and prop!!!

We said we didn’t want any of the curtains at the price he was charging. They had large and elaborate pelmets. He left these and one curtain at each window.

An old handheld vacuum. It was brilliant for the stairs and corners, great suction we couldn't find any replacement bags for as it was so old 😔
Also, lots and lots of coathangers. Came in handy with all the clothes we own 😁
A million sets of keys, most of which we have no idea what are actually for.

A giant chest freezer in the utility that was big enough to put a body in. When we asked them to take it they tried to sell it to us for £100. It took up most of the room and we didn’t need it so declined the offer. They only took it when we said we would have it removed and charge them if it wasn’t gone by the end of the week. Two blokes came in an estate car managed to push most of it in the back, driving off with the rest hanging out the back.

Both our sellers left us a bottle of Prosecco and a little new home card. We did the same when we moved out of our first home.

Ours took all the curtains so we had to slowly (and at great expense) replace these in the first few years of living there, they chopped down a beautiful tree in our front garden after we'd bought the house but before we moved in and they carpeted over the beautiful parquet flooring after we had bought the house but before we moved in. Utterly bizarre behaviour. They also left a cement mixer in the garage...

We got 6 lemonade glasses, four wooden chairs and a dining table, a bedside table plus two sets of curtains👍

Would've loved a bottle of bubbly and we couldn't get into the loft as the ladder was taken, but really can't complain!

Ours took the handles off every single doors for also took the bathroom door with them ! So helpful 😂

Not us but our old next door neighbours took their turf. Felt sorry for the lady that bought it, no idea whether she ever chased him up over it as we moved out ourselves a few weeks later. Very odd. It was a relatively small terraced garden but still!!

They took the removeable lid of the safe (the whole safe was sunk into the concrete floor in the integral garage.)

They argued that it was an accessory and not really part of the safe.

Our conveyancing lawyer met them at a motorway service station where they reluctantly handed it over.

The lawyer was my Dad though.

I had asked if they could leave the sofas and a wardrobe but they just left everythong and it was filthy... They also left fleas literally jumping out of the carpet. I had a good cry and then dealt with it. Took more than five trips to the tip oh and three flea bombs!

We moved about 8 weeks ago.

The house we bought he left two bottles of wine and a card. Lovely.

He also left a needle bin with used needles in, enough dog hair to stuff an elephant and all body hair shed in the past 10 years. A broken oven, dishwasher and shower.

At the request and agreement of our purchasers, we left a TV cabinet, some garage shelves and a water pump. For free.

They then had the gall to email our solicitors a few weeks later to request we pay for a skip hire of £150 as they decided they didn't want them and because we'd left a tin of nails in the shed. I told them to jog on and we'd come and collect it back from them. Not a peep since.

Mine left all the curtains, lampshades, three Stag wardrobes and a shed full of gardening equipment. All really nice and still being used nearly 8 years on!

Why wouldn't they take the washing line though. It's not part of the house! We left most of the curtains and rails in our old house when we left which I know the new people appreciated even though they changed them later it was handy . We moved to a new build so didn't need them so it was petty to take them down .

When my other half bought a house the previous owners left tons of their little girls' stuff in her old bedroom, like clothes and toys. I took three black bags of stuff to the estate agent.

Mine thought they were being ‘helpful’ to offer to leave a huge sliding door wardrobe the day before the move. I think they just couldn’t be bothered to move it - they did though! Then they left me a huge mirror next to the dining table which I had to ask them to come and collect - I don’t want to watch myself eat!

Our vendors took the wood burning stove (just left the flue hanging down through the ceiling) and they removed almost every single light fitting back to the bare wires.

First flat - A load of junk in the loft like old tyres. Fair bit of junk in the house like a vase.

Second house - loads of old paint cans in the shed and in the loft thousands of sheets of paper from a shop they ran and old school notes as well as general junk around the house. And electric wires and a gas fire set up in ways which could be fatal according to gas / electricty engineers. Thankfully surveyor had said he wasn't an expert but they looked dangerous and get it checked out but glad as had toddlers at the time.

This house was perfect, all cleared and cleaned. First time I bought a cleaned house.

We've been lucky and only moved into new houses on both our purchase moves (previously rented).

When we left our last place we left (amongst the fixtures, fittings and white goods we agreed upon) beer (it was a young guy moving in) and some tea, coffee, sugar sachets and long life milk to keep him going whilst unpacking. Also half a tin of paint for a room we'd recently painted so he could colour match and a few of the ridiculously hard to get hold of light bulbs and instructions on where to buy them.
