Another question for induction hob owners

People say if you have an induction hob you can use it as extra worktop space - can you do this while cooking on it? I know that it doesn't get hot in the same way as other types of hob do - does that mean I'd say you have a wider one, and you were cooking on on of the rings on one side you could spill over from the work surface on the other side, not right next to the pot in use, without mishap?

Yes.
I sometimes have a chopping board on one side of mine and am cooking next to it.

You do need to be careful not to touch the sides of hot pans or have food/liquids splash on you though.

Ok, that makes life easier. So it doesn't have to be either more pan space or more workspace - you can have both?

I regularly sit a chopping board on one side of mine and do prep alongside a pan that's cooking. I also wouldn't necessarily move something I'd left sitting on my induction hob (like a bowl with something in it or ingredients I'm about to use) before using a pan elsewhere on the hob surface.

I use ours as extra space while cooking, you just have to make sure you don't put anything over the controls and remember that the pans you are using are hot. But it's great got a bit of extra space if you're not using all of it.

This sounds life changing! (Sad but exciting to me!)

They ARE great Smile:

  • an extra surface for unloading shopping onto
  • an extra prep surface
  • soooooo easy to clean
  • individual timers for each ring etc

Ours beeps when you put something over the controls (Bosch) but it is still so much better than our old gas hob as so easy to clean (just a wipe over surface) and heats up very quickly. Only downside was that we discovered on pancake day that it is hopeless for making pancakes as when you take pan off heat to toss etc, the hob turns itself off ☹️

I really miss my induction hob from my old house. Can’t wait to rip this shit, slow, complete fecker to clean gas pile of crap hob out of my kitchen and replace with another one.

That feels better.

Yup.
Cook on one ring. Use the other cold rings to prep / serve onto plates.

Only downside was that we discovered on pancake day that it is hopeless for making pancakes as when you take pan off heat to toss etc, the hob turns itself off
But it turns back on in an instant

Ours is a Bosch and doesn’t do this? It flashes and if you don’t put the pan back on for aged then it goes off but it gives you quite a long time. Might be something you can change in the settings?
