Hanging picture shelf with command strips

Has anyone hung a picture shelf with command strips? I can't drill into the walls. There would only be a couple of picture frames and ornaments on it

If you mean just one shelf (like a plank) I'm sure it would not work, the leverage would pull it off, probably bringing some paint, plaster or wallpaper with it.

if you want picture frames (how old is your home?)

you could hammer these small hooks into the wall just below ceiling height, and suspend your pictures on fine wire or nylon cord.

Because the holes will be above eyeline in a shaded part of the wall, they are unlikely to be noticed.

You will need a pair of pincers to pull them out when no longer required.

They are driven into the wall at an angle, and must be pulled out at the same angle.

you wil need a small hammer. The "nails" are a hard steel, and will go into lightweight concrete blocks (in a modern house) easily, and soft red bricks in an older house. But the quality and hardness of bricks used for internal walls in old houses is very variable, since they were never intended to be seen.

If you are lucky enough to live in an old house, there may be wooden picture rails that you can use.

I wouldn't. I don't think command strips can hold anything with weight.

Yes I have. I have lots of bits up around my house, including shelves, with command strips.

I found command strips useless to be honest, I definitely wouldn’t recommend them.

I love command strips and use them lots for hanging pictures and hooks etc but I tried to hang a short Ikea Mosslanda picture ledge with them and it fell down.

I tried to hang a pretty light weight mirror with them. I had about 6 big ones on it, it still fell down.

I used them on a painting I adored (it was left to me by a loved one. It fell down and was ruined. I cried.

I'm thinking maybe not then! Thanks for the replies. We can't drill into the walls because it's just a thin layer of plaster on very solid brick so I might have to think of a plan b!

You probably just need a new masonry drill bit.

That said, if you want to go sticky, forget Command hooks and go with generic nano adhesive tape. It is fantastic.

You can by special picture hooks for hard walls, I brought some and they worked fine, they are the type that are plastic with metal prongs.

I hung all my mum's pictures with zcommsnd strips and they've been fine. I hung one in my house and it fell off, smashing the glass. A shelf with ornaments would be a risk!

Like a PP, I would say you need a new masonry drill bit and a hammer drill.

Yes, I agree.

I somehow got the idea it was a rental and you weren't allowed to drill.
