Blocking out road noise - ideas?

Wrongdecider · 05/09/2020 21:44

We’ve had to move into rented for 6 months to “break to chain”.

However we have ended up living on a busy road. It’s driving me crazy and last night I was awake until 3am listening to the boy racers and taxis. I even had ear plugs in.

Is there anything I can do other than use earplugs & have thick curtains?

We’re only here for 6 months but it’s already driving me mad! Weekends are the worst by far. Sad

Speakers and a podcast of white noise or rain etc is my go to. Or I think you can get sleep friendly headphones if speakers wouldn't work.

Move your bed to a room that is not street facing if possible.

Yeah white noise. Our favourite is the celestial white noise. Download it to phone or iPad and set it to play on loop as low/loud as you need. It really helps me sleep well

I use ear plugs then noise cancelling headphones over the top. When they are on the white noise helps block sound. Then I have radio on quiet but loud enough hear over ear plugs so helps to drown out unwanted noise even further. A pillow over the head also helps of you need it!

You could try weather strips on the windows.

If you're not on a yellow line, park a van outside so the traffic has to slow down. Ideally create a slalom with multiple vehicles. (Senior police told me this as a way of slowing traffic through a village)

Although thinking about it now boy-racers may like the challenge...

So double ear plugs then.!
