Can you paint Karndean?

We got LVT (not Karndean but same type of thing) and I went away from my usual preference to get a lovely dark wood-effect. Three years on and I hate it! I want it to be lighter. We can't afford to replace it for several more years.

Can I paint it, and if so, what with?

No you cant
Its a LVT and so has a layer of vinyl on top. Getting paint to stick to that and then stay stuck when people walk on it will be very tricky
I used to work for a Karndean competitor and if anyone asked if they could paint our (almost identical) flooring I would advise them not to

Rugs, mats, runners?

@RunningHoops difficult as it's in the kitchen. I wonder if I could get a big hard wearing rug to cover most of it, or if that would just get really mucky..?

You can get washable ones as I've just been looking for hallway.

I think you can actually buy rugs that are designed for kitchens and are washable
