Box around pipes

We asked our builder to create a box to go under our boiler as there are a lot of unsightly pipes on show.

He's made one but siliconed around it so now the boiler isn't accessible from underneath - he's saying it should be okay as you only have to access once a year, and when we do we just have to cut the silicone and re-silicone ourselves after a boiler check?!

There's no way I want to do that - silicone every time! Plus it's more than once a year if say the pressure drops or there's an emergency.

Posting here to see if anyone thinks I'm in the wrong? I don't think I am.

I know he doesn't want to cut the silicone off as it won't look as good. I just need it to be workable. It would then just be a moveable cover which I can live with.

That sounds rubbish. Ours was in a cupboard that was built out so the who,e boiler and pipes encased.

What sort of plumber is he? Sounds like an idiot. You will need access without cutting out silicone. Besides that you won't cut all the silicon away without using a remover which is a pain.

Ask him to find a different solution as you want something simpler

That's a shit solution. Tell him you're not accepting it.

Op, go to //www.pendock.co.uk and search for boiler pipe casing.
They are made for what you want and can be fixed in place with screws or free standing, depending on your pipework location.
Re-siliconing every x months is NOT a practical suggestion.

P.S. I haven't used the above products but know about them as I have the same issue .

Thank you so much for all replies!

I got him to cut it out in the end and just leave it so I can at least move it if we need to.

He was really hesitant as if I was making a fuss, I don't understand why?

@Wingedharpy thanks for the link I should have looked for that before!!
