Boiling water tap - in general & Perrin and Rowe

I'm divided over whether I should get a (near) boiling hot water tap in our new kitchen. I want traditional brass taps, and I don't think there is really a nice design of a traditional brass 3-in-1 tap, so I think it would have to be a separate small brass tap just for hot water. And the only option I can find is Perrin & Rowe

• Does anyone have the Perrin & Rowe mini hot water tap? Any good?

• Is it a problem that it's near boiling, not actually boiling?

• The tap has quite a small capacity (less than 2.4l); I like to make a big pot of tea in the morning and currently my big tea pot holds 3 litres! I appreciate this might be a good opportunity to cut back on my caffeine but how well does making big pots of tea work with a hot tap? Is it ok to be regularly emptying the whole hot water tank to make a pot? Or would I be better sticking with a traditional kettle?

We love ours - with the caveat that we have an induction hob. I say the hob because we wanted the tap to get rid of the kettle, otherwise I don’t really see the point. An induction hob boils a pot of water really fast but gas doesn’t so would be annoying when cooking pasta etc as the tap is great for a few cups of tea but no good for filling a whole pot.
We just have one of the cheaper ones, it’s brushed brass, looks nice though imo and I can’t see how it would work any differently to an expensive one. Plus the filter cartridges are cheaper.

Quite a few of my friends have these, and I have to say I don't think they are hot enough to make tea. I drink black tea, and therefore really notice the quality of the water, and haven't yet had a nice cup of tea from any hot water tap.

Our other option is to save money by not getting the hot water tap, which will make our sink area look less 'busy' because we won't have two different taps, and then spend a little bit of the saving on a really beautiful cast iron kettle to sit on our induction hob looking splendid.

Ive a Perrin and Rowe tap with a water filter (because we have a water softener) and then I've got a separate Quooker on the side.

Admittedly they are Chrome.

I would 100% get a Quooker, I too have an induction hob.
Ive a few friends who have them too and not one person regrets getting it.

I don't drink Tea, im a coffee person...

This is true, they’re not quite as hot - I drink milky tea so it doesn’t bother me and my husband drinks green tea so he likes it but if you just drank black it probably wouldn’t be hot enough.

We’ve been offered to buy the hot water tap during our upcoming house purchase- the vendor has priced it at £500.

Am I missing something? Because to me it seems like a £500 kettle...

@Oopsadaisydoddle that is an interesting option - but maybe tricky to fill a teapot from there?

@Crabbo what do you really love about yours? What do you use it for most often that makes it worth it?

@Karcheer That's interesting about you having the filter tap because of the water softener - we're hoping to have a water softener too.

A third option would be to have a little prep sink in our utility area which is just off the kitchen - that way we could have another tap and that could perhaps have filtered, hot, cold, etc there?

Tbh we don't fill saucepans of water from the kettle currently anyway - we just boil them on the induction hob. I don't drink coffee although my husband does. So is it just the convenience of not waiting for the kettle to boil to make cups of coffee/tea that makes the tap worth it?

I have a quooker boiling water tap. It is plenty hot enough for tea - and I like mine really hot. It is practically bubbling when it comes out (you would scauld yourself if not careful). I also use it to fill pots for cooking - you mighht too once you get used to it. I love it and would put one in every house from now on.
It's brushed steel though, I have no idea what other designs it comes in. I doubt you will always go into your separate prep area just to make a coffee though - you need it in your main space.
@TerribleCustomerCervix they are hardly going to go to the expense of removing the tap so I'd ignore that offer - if they leave it great.

@Nibor1991- you know what, your post made me think that 3 litres did seem a bit crazy! I've checked and it's not 3 litres, it's 1 litre! Which makes a lot more sense and also makes me feel a lot better about my tea addiction!

Agree that Terrible's sellers are trying it on - they're not going to want to pay to take it out.

We had a Franke boiling water tap - think they are part of Perrin and Rowe and unfortunately had a lot of issues with it. Franke did try their best to resolve for us, but in the end gave us all of our money back (fabulous customer service). We ended up buying a quooker 3 in 1 and it is fabulous. The water is boiling - the boiler part holds 3 litres and there is an option to upgrade to a larger boiler if required. Quooker do a variety of finishes so might be worth having another look?

Apparently they use less energy than boiling a kettle several times a day as once the water is heated it is kept under pressure.
