Big move, do we? I can't decide

I need advice.. Or to vent, I'm very torn.. Were ment to be saving to buy a family members house in the area we now live in, it's my hometown.

However we're always going back to a place we lived in 16 years ago. I met my partner when he lived there, we got married there.. He has a long line of history there and it's beautiful with lots of opportunities for the kids when they get older.

Then there's the place we are right now that while we have a huge support network here, it's ugly, there's nothing to do (we're always traveling away from my town to go out) and we're possibly buying a home to stay here.

My DS starts school in September, but we've seen a dream home (to rent) in my DH home town. I'm so torn.. Part of me thinks if we do it now the kids won't have to deal with losing friends, especially if our house buy doesn't happen and its an amazing place for them to grow up in.

The other half is nervous.. I don't drive, I have a new baby and a preschooler. I might be isolated and my family network would be an hour or more away (I visit and walk to see them quite a bit).

Should I suck it up and take the leap? I'm thinking deep down we might never buy this house.. And if we do I'll be stuck here and then what if I'm lonely over an hour away.

Move! You don’t like where you are and it doesn’t sound as though that will change. Once your DC are in school it gets a lot harder to uproot them. If you have one starting school you will make friends at the school gate too. Family will still be there and you can visit regularly. I can’t see much keeping you where you are.

I’m sure there are more vibrant places closer than 1h away? Why don’t you explore the surrounding areas so that you can remain close to family?

@Okbutnotgreat @BumbleBeee69 I think I am leaning more to moving. We've moved all our lives until we had kids so it's not unfamiliar to me. I thinks it's just a little scary as now we have kids. DH has offered driving lessons tonight too.

@JoJoSM2 There's another issue to this, we live in a small town that is 45 mins from a big city so house prices for a 3 bed (we got a 2 as didn't expect DC2 to be a thing when we moved here) so we are cramped. The idea was to squish DS2 in with us until we bought the family home 3 bed.

This home in the other place is a 4 bed (so DH can work from home) and although more rent not as expensive as it would be in my home town. We can travel and we do lots but this place has lots of country walks, beaches ect that would be on our front door.

Country side and beaches are great. Try it. You can always return if unsure at a later date. Learn to drive. Get involved in the community. Invite your family to beach days

If your heart is in the other place, you might as well move now. Driving is a basic life skill so worth learning.

An hour away is not that much, I think you'd get used to it quickly.

Move, and learn to drive if you can .
