Anyone with experience of velux branded energy saving blinds, exterior awning blinds or aluminium roller shutters?

As per title I'd love to hear from anyone who has any of these blinds for their velux windows and how they have performed in terms of heat conservation in winter and sun deflection in summer?

As far as I understand the aluminium roller shutters do both heat saving in winter and reducing passive heating in summer, but they are mega pricey.
Or I could get a cheaper combo of the interior energy saving honeycomb blinds and the exterior sun protection awnings.

I'm currently sitting sweltering in my loft conversion and looking for potential and affordable solutions. I didn't do the conversion, but have the plans and there is all the proper insulation in the walls etc, but it's just that the 4 huge velux windows face nearly due south and they are basically like having the radiators on all summer, and like having 4 huge fridge doors open all winter.

I don't want to spend a load of money and it not be effective though.

I'm not going to say they're magic but have you tried window tints, they actually do work to some degree, we used window tints and thermal blinds, it didn't cost much and there has been some differences. Although in this 26+ weather unless you keep all doors and windows open early morning/late evening and shut most of the day and don't generate much heat it's all going to rise into the loft.

Thanks - I have reflective window film installed which has made a tiny difference but not enough. The awnings apparently stop the heat reaching the glass so that it never has the chance to heat up. Since making the op I've read up amazon reviews on the awnings which are quite encouraging, so I think I'm going to try those
They are also the cheapest option of the three!

We have the awnings and the honeycomb thermal blinds and together they both do a pretty good job of reducing the amount of heat coming in through the windows. The awning blind is a bit awkward for me to put in place but I'm short!

Have you checked the prices on roofblinds.co.uk? They sell Velux blinds but are much cheaper than buying direct from Velux.

Thanks - great to hear from someone who has had success with them. My velux windows are very low so I think the awnings will be ok to fix

We're really glad we bought them. The loft still gets warm on the hottest days, but nowhere near as bad as before.

An added bonus is that the thermal blinds are great for privacy as you can open from the top or bottom. Our velux windows are quite low too, so I open the blinds partway from the top - you still get loads of light in but the blind stops the neighbours seeing in.
