If it's your own home - eg not rented or housing association I wouldn't bother as they'll just make you pay a fee. If you read the building regulation guidelines technically most of what we do in our own homes requires building reg approval eg plastering more than a certain % or wiring or even new windows but 99.9% of people don't obtain sign off.
