Ideas to make bedroom more appealing

I have a good size double bedroom in the middle of a house layout that has no external window. It's not great that there is no window into the outside. I'm redecorating and wondering what design or gadgets can I add that would make it more appealing for a uni student?

Ignore PP's link unless you are US-based. Usually you need a window for it to be able to be legally classed as a bedroom, there are a couple reasons for this but mainly to provide an alternative means of escape in case of fire.

What was your windowless room intended to be? I can't think of anything except a utility or bathroom which would might not have windows when built!

Poor student! Who would want to work in an airless “room” with no window? It’s not suitable. More like a prison cell. Student rooms must have desks. They expect to work in their rooms.

Op, I’d paint it a bright colour with some nice artwork on the walls. Light coloured flooring, double bed, desk for work, and chair, some nice lighting, either desk or flooring.

Thanks. I'm in the UK. It does have a window but it's internal not external, ie. the window opens into space of an extension we had built into previous yard space. It's a large room. I'm redecorating and was after ideas.

Well that’s all very well but there are legalities about letting out a room without an obvious means of escape in a fire. See attached. In fact it’s debatable if it’s a “bedroom” at all. A tenant would be mad to rent it.

It’s a pointless exercise to attract a tenant though! It’s not a suitable space in the uk.

@My0My My post was asking for clever ideas for decorating an internal facing bedroom. I've not said anything about renting, it's nowhere in my post! It's a 3x4ft double bedroom so not a cupboard. Lots of presumptions your making.

Thanks to others who gave good suggestions. Bought some lovely artwork yesterday and lighting on order.

@My0My Errr..no I didn't!! I said for a uni student which gives context of who it's aimed for.....as opposed to a child or an elderly person who's likes would be different.

If you’re decorating for a family member obviously the advice will be different to decorating a room to rent.

How much light does the room get via the extension? If it's quite dark then I'd actually emphasise this by painting the walls quite dark with contrasting white woodwork, and adding a couple of lamps to give a warm glow. Painting light colours in poorly lit rooms often just makes them appear cold and harsh. Also a nice fluffy rug and a throw across the bed. Think of layers and cosy textures. Fairy lights add cosiness.

If the student needs a study space then ensure there's a designated desk area with a lamp - perhaps section off with a rug.

The op said “what design or gadgets can I add that would make it more appealing for a uni student?” Given that the op needed to ask, it was assumed by many that it wasn’t for a family member but was for a paying student. It’s difficult to see what other conclusion posters could have come to. The op is defensive about it and frankly I don’t give a flying f—k. It’s still a crap room!

There are rules and regulations for letting to mythical students! Yes. A desk is a requirement! And a bed.
