Have you got a kitchen diner that measures around 8m x 4m?

We are looking at a property that currently has an archway between the kitchen and reception room next to it. We would like to knock down all of the wall between the rooms and create an open plan kitchen diner with an island. The patio doors from the current reception room face South West.

Does anyone have a kitchen diner around the same size and prepared to share a photo please?

(There is also the potential to knock through into a second reception room so it becomes a livingroom/kitchen/diner but it's the kitchen diner space that I'm looking for inspiration for currently).

This was my previous home.We knocked the wall down between the kitchen and dining room and extended the width of the kitchen to match the width of the dining room. I think the dimensions were pribably similar. Hope the photo attaches

Thanks for sharing those pictures. I'm off into a rabbits hole with the Houzz designer now.

I'm glad to see that an island would be possible and love that it faces the bifolds in the kitchen, but am concerned they would be a bit of a waste in the kitchen because of the way the room faces and when it would be likely to get sun. I need a sunny evening soon to check ☀️

The bi folds were south east facing so early morning sunshine in winter on a sunny day when the sun was low in the sky. In summer we had sunshine in the kitchen until around 2pm then it was shady. I had the bifolds open all day in summer. As the sun moved round the house, (it is a bungalow) the dining room was sunny late afternoon/evening. We used the kitchen/dining room much more than the lounge in summer. But the lounge was nice in winter when we wanted a fire. We have since moved but we will eventually have a very similar arrangement in the new house. I am planning on having the same kitchen layout It worked perfectly for us.

We've booked that designer ( karen at OnePlan) next month to help us get our layout right. She's lovely isn't she! So sensible. I'm so excited to get started.

I'd be wary of knocking another room through as well unless you have other downstairs reception rooms or unless you design it so it can be closed off and be well soundproofed.

When you have young children, a big open space is brilliant but there may come a time that you want to shut them away. My two teenagers don't like to use their bedrooms, they prefer the big family room downstairs.

Waltzing I know what you mean about completely open plan. It might be Broken plan (I think it's called) we would be looking at if we were to make it livingroom/kitchen/diner - but there are two other decent sized rooms on the ground floor as well.

It's a big old dormer bungalow too Joans.

We put cedar sliding screens in to segregate a large kitchen / diner and a lounge area...it did work v well except that when you’re in the lounge part you can still get a lot of kitchen noise interfering with TV viewing...that’s a v first world problem though. We’ve sold the house since.

We are about to know through various rooms to extend the kitchen (will end up being about 5 x 8). We are further knocking through to the old dining room next door (which will create the bottom bit of an L shape). Intend to have large internal bi-fold doors through to that as a sitting area. Currently intending for them to be solid wood, but could be glazed (undecided). We have a separate living room away from the kitchen, though, too.

We’ve got 9x5 kitchen, no photos but it’s got a kitchen at the back with peninsular, dining and living area we love it!
