Where can I buy a place for under a million, or rent for about GBP1,500 a month. Pre with a garden or some communal gardens. Please? Each time I think of there, I think of Heathrow or Southhall. There must be somewhere nicer. Please?

well anywhere is nicer than Heathrow or Southall. Just look at multimap and pick somewhere

Think you would find plenty of places round West Kensington/Fulham/Brook Green. All nice family friendly areas. Check out this site for prices and local info.

Fulham - really? I thought that was for squillionaies. And I had no idea WEst KEn and Brook Green were actual places. Thank you!
And Cod, I know everywhere is nicer than Southall, but I can't afford the other places, like Notting Hill, that I know of.

Depends how much space you want. eg that site has a 3 bed house with garden on Colehill Lane in Fulham for 850K. Look at W14 postcodes for Brook Green and West Ken.

And Queens Club Gardens are very nice too. Must stop looking - could be here all night! Good luck!

Teddington? Richmond? Barnes? Putney? Sheen?

How far out? What's your buying budget? North of Hillingdon borough, Harrow, etc - or is that too far out?

West Acton is lovely. You can get 3 br houses for under 500,000. Look in W3 part rather than W5 part...much cheaper because wrong postcode but otherwise just the same.

West Acton is where my in laws live! And the idea is to be near-ish them so they can help with childcare, but exactly the same neighbourhood would be a bit much! I like harrow. I want a house with garden, for a max of £600,000. I'd rather have a small house in a better area than a big one in a rougher place, I think.

Try Pinner or surrounding area - Ruislip, Northwood, Northwood Hills, Eastcote. I am not as keen on Harrow itself as Hillingdon. You'll get a fair wedge of house and garden for 600k in Ruislip, and even in Pinner.

This sort of thing

Decor a bit dated, but still a fair amount of house and garden

hunkermunker · 22/09/2007 12:10

Pinner

Report
hunkermunker · 22/09/2007 12:12

Another one that says Pinner, but it's in Eastcote really

Ealing/Northfields? W13 postcode (cheaper than W5 but nice green area, good primary schools, lots of family friendly places. Not too far away from West Acton but far enough not to be 'popped in' on all the time.

HUnker your first and last houses are lovely. Not sure about the 1930s semi. How easy are these places to get to central London? Kings Cross and the City, rather than Paddington really.

I currently rent a 2 bed in Isleworth for 1100pcm.

About 10 mins from the river, tree lined victorian terrace street. I love it.

Am in the process of buying a 2 bed low rise ex-local flat with communal gardens about 15 mins furhter west for £182k. It's Richmond Borough but Hounslow by any other name tbh.

I use rightmove and findaproperty websites, there are places around you just need to keep a sharp eye out.

and if you're moving this way, we have a great West London MN group on Meet Ups who are very friendly and active!

They were found doing a v quick search - I did wonder about some of them! Was more to show you the size of property for that sort of money, really, rather than "dream houses"!

When you say City, which station? I've done journeys to Chancery Lane/Holborn/Farringdon/St Pauls from here and it's pretty straightforward. Met line pretty fast and reliable, Central line ditto, also Piccadilly if you don't mind sitting on a train for most of your life!

Also, try looking about the 500k mark for a 3-bed with potential - you can find something really nice for that, with room to extend and still have plenty of room in your budget to do the work.

What do you need to be near? Schools? Station? Mainline or tube?

MrsRecycle is always ravin about Ruislip - good schools reasonable property prices and about 15 tube lines (if you beleive her) but quite a few.

wohmum · 23/09/2007 22:03

Ruislip's lovely (we're just about to move there - ds's in a great school! ) we're renting out our lovely house in Greenford (nice bit of greenford!) 3 beds, garage, garden, easy access a40, if you are interested!!

also northfields lovely but pricier than ruislip I would imagine, pinner/eastcote etc all good. not keen on harrow either (and parking is shocking!)
