I’m considering painting our living room a rich deep dark blue shade. Is this completely insane? Is it about to become hideously dated? And if you have this paint colour up at the moment would you share a picture please?

I like the look, but feel that the navy is everywhere at the moment. If I were to do it I’d go for a teal/greenish colour - I went to a cafe which had this with slightly darker radiator/trim and it was lovely.

And it’s only paint, which is easy to change. I feel everything dates eventually, but it’s also nice to have some fun with these things, so enjoy it!

I always try and stay neutral with expensive/hard to change stuff (tiles, sofas, carpets). Then have fun with the cheaper/easy to change stuff (paint, cushions, ornaments).

I have one long wall in the saphire salute by dulux and its really nice, rest of the walls are cream and have two windows so plenty of light to keepthe room airy

I have our chimney breast and inside the white alcove backs painted in Designers Guild Moonlit Nights. The other walls are in a colour similar to F&B Cornforth White. I think it looks fab, but without the white of the alcove shelving to break it up a bit it may look a bit heavy. Navy is definitely on the way out with more emerald shades coming in. I work for a bespoke kitchen company so we can see what’s coming up next by our customers changing requests!

Not my actual sitting room, but the inspiration I used for mine. Think I used Craig and Rose French Turquoise in the end but it was over a year ago and I had about 15 different samples!

I don't have a photo handy, but we painted our living room in Teal Tension by Dulux and I love it! It's really cosy, and sets off paintings/objects on shelves beautifully with the right lighting. I think if you really like the colour then don't worry about it dating. The only thing I'd say is that it needed at least two coats to get an even colour (onto newly lined walls) and if you have kids consider a wipe clean/fairly robust paint. Even with just adults and older children I'd say it can mark more easily than lighter colours.

I would share a picture, but the room it is in, is a mess at the moment with boxes that need going up into the loft. I have my dining room in wickes own brand admiral in a matte finish. I loved it then when it was painted I was terrified it would be too dark but honestly I love it. I have a dark oak floor in there and have white furniture, blinds and bookcase with gold accents around the room.

@ThunderboltandLightning why is one dog eating another in your photo Confused I didn’t notice at first, too busy looking at the wall behind. Lovely colour.

We have F&B ultramarine blue in our study and I really like it. It’s more of a rich deep blue than a navy and is one of their new natural history museum collaboration colours. A photo would be a little outing though

Our sitting room is Dulux Mysterious Teal. The room feels very cosy and luxurious, although it's hard to photograph well in artificial light. If I have succesfully attached pictures, I have a couple in daylight from when we first painted the room a couple of years ago and a "live" image including my toes.

PoisoningPigeons that’s a beautiful room! I am planning something similar with the front room in our new house

Poisoningpigeons, what curtains do you have? I love your room

Oh thank you Puff and Liz Smile

We have a bay window with full-length beige curtains. Also a beige sofa. The walls used to be beige. It was like living in a bowl of porridge.

This isn't a great picture because the sun is overpowering, just a quick snap I took after we put the furniture back in position, but it shows the curtains.

Love it Poisoning. Mysterious Teal will be replacing the glorious Brassica which I still love but fancy a change. Thanks for the inspiration.

Love some of these and absolutely paint is cheap enough if I get it wrong it’s a few quid and some elbow grease to fix. I’m quite excited about paint samples now.

I used to have a plum dining room and loved it. Actually would go for that again but it wouldn’t work in this house.

@Helpmyself. Haha it came from a dog breed page that I follow! They are just playing. I only saved it because it had the colour scheme I wanted.

Still haven't got round to dressing the mantel or hanging pictures, but these are my actual sitting room. Excuse the failure to clean up after last night's fire!

My whole stairs and landing is dulux sapphire salute, I wanted it in the living room but its east facing in a small cul de sac and gets no sunlight so I couldn't! The landing gets loads of natural light, and I have a glass light shade that reflects all the lovely colours on the walls

Stiffkey Blue here. I love it. It's so cosy. But we have a lot of natural light so it doesn't look too dark in day.

I just keep thinking of the Unmumsy Mul - she did her lounge like this then hated it and has just repainted it a much lighter colour. She did the woodwork too. Far too much.

It's under the Turner Home Project on Instagram if you want to look.

I am now seriously considering painting a wall in our house to be in the teal colour. I love it. What do you think? The current owners have this. Our current living room is neutral walls and red/burgundy carpet.
