Kitchen Layout Ideas

I need to decide where to put everything in the new kitchen but I just can't work out the best layout! Can anybody help? I've attached a floor plan.

I would like a tall fridge/freezer to be in the top left corner, and probably a sink under one of the windows. I can't work out where to put the oven (we'll just be using our existing freestanding oven with induction hob if that makes any difference). I don't think I want the oven on the bottom wall as I don't think I want to be staring at it from the table/seating area. But do I want to be looking at the sink either? I don't know! A dishwasher needs to go in somewhere too. No washing machine though.

I also hate extractor fans, is there any way to avoid having to have one? I don't like splashbacks/tiles in kitchens either so I don't think I'm particularly easy to please Grin

There will be no wall units, just under counter units.

Put the cooker on one of the external walls and have an extracting cooker hood - easy to vent it outside. You night hate them but they reduce cooking smells and excess moisture.

One of the best ways to work out layout is to think about things like making a hot drink and cooking a meal and imagining these processes step by step. Do you really want to walking the length of the kitchen between sink and fridge to make tea and coffee? When you empty the dishwasher, how easy is it to put things away? I pretty much don't have to move from one place in order to put all the crockery and cutlery away.

wow that's exactly why we need help - our current set up has the sink, fridge and oven in three separate rooms so we are finding it very hard to imagine a more 'normal' set up. The idea of just having everything in one room seems such a novelty! It will be especially nice to have counter space next to each appliance so no more juggling between rooms with fridge items/pans of hot water etc

I would have the fridge freezer in a bank on the right. Against the hall. That leaves all the sink area, either side, for prep and serving. You need serving space near to your table. Otherwise that is a trek! I would then have food storage on the same wall as the fridge feeezer.

Make sure you have enough space to move the dining chairs out from the table and that there is circulation space. It looks a bit close to the seating area.

So Bubbles do you mean the fridge freezer goes in the top right corner of the kitchen? That could work quite well actually because we were planning to use the under-stairs cupboard as a food larder as well as the kitchen cupboards. So I could put the food shopping away easily!

And then sink under left hand side window? Where would you put oven?

Table should be okay, our every day table is a lot smaller than the one on the plans so should be a bit more space to walk around and there won't be a coffee table in the middle of the seating area, it will just be a rug probably. (Will probably be a couple of armchairs instead of a sofa on one side as well, but we'll just decide all that once everything else is in and see what space we have)
