Anyone from Leicester here? Are Clarendon Park and Oadby nice places to live?

Is there a preference?

Any other areas in Leicester I can consider? I'm after Victorian character but close to shops. I have been to most towns within 2 hours of here (culminating in going to Wisbech last week).

I live in Hertfordshire and am looking to find somewhere within a couple of hours to relocate to (can no longer afford Hertfordshire). Ive been all over Northants and Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire so far.

Most of Leicester is nice, to be honest ... does it need to be in the city itself, or would you move further out? Leicester doesn't have the huge polarisation of living standards than London does, so while the nice bits are never fabulous, the bad bits are rarely horrendous!

That house is bloody gorgeous and exactly what I'd like but is probably too far.

We need to be as close to the M1 as poss. Which most of Leicester is I suppose. And a friend I heard from today recommended i look at Oadby and Clarendon Park (He lives in a really rough area Northills ? and said I should definitely not think of that are)

Was thinking almost city centre - I'm looking for a street with doctors, dentists, solicitors on it (I work as a counsellor so will be working from home). Also needs to be an area that can support that activity.

I'm all stressed at moving further away and just can't seem to find the 'right' place (not even sure it exists ). I found a lovely georgian townhouse in Wisbech but just couldn't imagine living that far away - a real alien landscape crossing the fens - felt like I was abroad.

London Road is the area you want to be looking at.

Clarendon Prk is very popular with Doctors & other professionals as it is within walking distance of hospitals, universities ect. They are mostly lovely Victorian house, but parking can be bad around there.[my mum grew up there & loved it)

Stoneygate is just across the other side of the Rd from Clarendon & quite posh-houses tend to be bigger with better parking.

We don't live anywhere near Leicester but dh works in Oadby and one of his good friends lives in Oadby. It's meant to be a nice place with a good reputation for schools. But I think its the wrong side of Leicester for the M1 and dh always moans that there is no proper ring road and its a bugger to get through the city.

I live in Clarendon Park and love it here. It's all Victorian character. Oadby seems okay too, I have friends that live there. The parking is a problem in Clarendon Park but IMO it is more than made up for by the mix of people, the shops, cafes and facilities generally.

I wouldn't live off the London Road before the Victoria Park Road personally. And some parts of CP are quite studenty and can get a bit noisy at the end of term. It's usually the end towards the Welford Road. Where we live is very quiet.

Try this estate agents..Knightsbridge

If you move here CAT me

EscapeFrom etc - are we still on for Thursday even though the weather isn't looking as good?

No Oadby is about as close as you can get to M1 J21 as you can get without being too close AFAIK.

Ignore my last post I was thinking of Blaby.

Have you thought about Nottingham too? I think some parts are much nicer than some parts of Leics, but some parts are probably also much rougher too...

Thank-you very much all of you.

Nineunlikelytales - I'm sure I'm being stupid but did you mean to the right of the London Road before Victoria Park Road - or to the left?

I'm looking at it and all the houses I like (can afford) so far are in a long square:

between Welford Road and London Road and between Victoria Park Road and Clarendon Park road - a big square of victorian streets with Queens Road running through it.

No sorry, I meant the left of the London Road as if you were walking from the station. The area by the Queens Road is very pleasant and the Queens Road itself has nice cafes, bars, a health food shop, delicatessen, butchers, bakers, old fashioned hardware shop, a baby things shop, a wedding outfitters, bookshops, greengrocers, estate agents, travel agents and a couple of banks (just so you get a feel for what it is like). If you want any more information feel free to CAT me.
