Not completely done. Waiting last
month for builder to finish small things. I have some additional touching up to the paint and the filler over the fridge. I hand painted this myself. We have 9 meters of bifold doors. This was three rooms knocked into one, moved kitchen to other side of the house. The room is much bigger than photo shows

What have you used for heating

Hi. We have underfloor heating in here - from the boiler, not electric. We needed a new boiler as our old one (which was over 10 years old) wouldn’t be able to cope.

The area is only just done (well, except for small items we have been waiting for builder to finish these last 4 weeks!) still unpacking boxes.

Not all my drawers have cutlery inserts (I have three - these are behind the drawer fronts, so drawer within a drawer). I need more.

If I could, I wouldn’t have the pillar in the island but had no choice as it’s holding up the house

Not sure about voile on the bifolds. Too new to know if we will want them. We are not overlooked. The whole room, including ceiling, has new insulation so should be and amazingly warm in the winter so there isn’t a need for window treatments for warmth.

The colours are from the Autentico Vetdante Matt range of paints. The dark grey is called Pidgeon Grey, the light grey is called Silver. The walls are from their Velvet range in colour Pebbles. Very hard wearing, washable and important to me, are all environmentally friendly and eu certified safe, both regarding VOC and EN71-3

can i ask how much were the bifold doors? We're looking at approx 4 to 5m of them but think i want a door too (so i can let the dog out rather than go through the utility room)

Have you gone with pan draws on the bottom rather than cupboards?

My kitchen in our new build house. It's a massive L shaped room with kitchen in the _ bit, dining room in the corner bit and sun room in the I bit. I have wooden bifold doors between the dining and sun rooms which we close in the winter to make it feel more cosy. We eat a lot at the island in the kitchen but the crockery/cutlery is in the long 'sideboard' along the dining room wall so it's always accessible even if two of us are busy cooking. (Kitchen is from DIY kitchens)

Yes, I have gone for all drawers except under the sink and under the worktop where the stools are. I had the same in my last kitchen and really love the drawers over having doors.

I am not sure, but seem to recall the doors were around 7k. We have a central opening door too, but it can also fold back with all the others. We needed a massive crane to bring in the huge RSJ over the house so I know that added to the cost.

These are some of my other drawers, other side of the island. I keep dishes, serving bowels etc in drawers it’s so much easier than stacking on shelves behind doors. It’s better use of storage space IMHO. This is the third kitchen I have planned. Second with drawers

i'm really like the two different colour units you have.
We have a rangemaster at teh moment and i'm contemplating getting rid and have a hob and oven separate but i love the look of yours. Argh!!! I'm unsure what to do :)

My sink is in the island, opposite the range. I only have a photo of it in the during stage. It’s a caple Chepstow. Massive and I’m so thrilled. I used to have a range master and went for the smeg because I wanted more burners. I had my rangemaster for over 10 years and loved it. We debated keeping it but in the end got a great deal from a local appliances company (same place for sink, dishwasher etc). It’s amazing how prices vary on same brands if you shop around (same for handles, saved @8.50 per cup handle)

I am very much on the bi- folding doors which company did you use? Do you have any tips on knocking walls & your renovation in general. Also how how did it take.
I am looking at places now and I would want to knock kitchen & dinner through & have open space into the garden but not sure realistically how much I should budget (excluding the kitchen for now)?

I’m in Surrey. My doors are from //www.origin-global.com. As my works were knocking three rooms into one, moving water, gas, drainage, boiler (and new boiler), underfloor heating, new appliances (retained my American fridge freezer), new door into the room, 4 RSJ, large amount of tiling and new kitchen plus bifolds etc, it worked out to 100k and took three months (although we are STILL waiting for small things to be done such as more tiling either side of overmantle, lighting etc) BUT we know we have dramatically increased the value and saleability of our house. We had a number of estate agents in prior to doing the work, discussing if we do this or that or nothing, what would be the value. We also had architect fees, surveyor, structural engineer fees as well as some to council for various certificates. (No planning was needed though)

If you need to move gas etc and have more RSJ other than the bifolds, the cost increases dramatically. Also, smaller bifolds may not need RSJ. We have 9 Metres of bifolds so needed massive RSJ


The kitchen units themselves were 11k and come unpainted. I painted them myself which saved a few grand. You can save loads that way and the quality is amazing. Hand made kitchens of Christchurch is where my kitchen comes from.

I would suggest getting in some builders and they can give you rough estimates. Don’t use cowboys if you’re knocking down walls and be sure to get the builders by word of mouth from people who have actually used them.

@lookatmenow yes they’re all different but from same company (loaf) do fittings etc all match just the glass shades are different.

It’s the fridge freezer next to the oven, the other side with the blackboard door is a pantry.

Go for a nice big island, if you have the space and raise one side so that it doubles as a breakfast bar. This is something that I've always wanted but never had a kitchen big enough with enough space to walk around an island :-(

@ team nice kitchen, pls where & how much was your fridge/freezer is it one of those sub zero ones? Also I like the idea of the cooker on an island but I'm nervous re putting an extractor in the ceiling as that's probably adding a fair bit in opening it up then closing plastering it bk up? Is it really worth it?

Adore, how much did the underfloor heating cost? My kitchen is around the same size as yours.

I can't get any idea from anyone how much it will cost!

Did they have to dig up thecgloor to put it in and was it expensive?

We're doing similar at the moment.

We've opted to have an induction hob on the island as opposed to the sink. I think it looks sleeker than a sink. (Plus my kids will just leave all their washing up around the sink, making the island look messy and cluttered, rather than putting it in the dishwasher.) Our sink will be on the back wall, so clutter will be easier to hide. Breakfast bar on the other side of the island.

We're having a ceiling mounted extractor over the hob. We're having the ceiling & lighting replaced anyway, so it made sense, not sure if it would have been cost-prohibitive if we weren't.
