My new render is horrible!

Total third world issue. I know this.

Today the renderers came to monocouche our extension - I've come home taken one look & I hate it.

The sample looked a really light off white, but in reality it's like a light sand. They've done a wonderful job but I've chosen the wrong colour, or the sample was not representative. It's not awful, but it's not what we wanted & doesn't look that great.

Tomorrow they return to do the back (front & side done).
Do I:

1. Ask them to get different colour monocouche & do the back in that?
   
2. Ask them to take it off & redo it (not sure if that's even a thing and it will be £££)
   
3. Put up and shut up with my mistake?
   

I don't want to paint as that will mean maintenance. I'd rather do option 3.

Im leaning towards 1.
Will anyone (but me) notice that the back& front are different & think it's odd?
What would you do?

I really like it. Much prefer it to white render that can look to stark. If you hate it and can afford it, ask them to remove it and start again.

Thanks pretty - they've done a great job, really neat, it's just the colour. DH agrees it's not right but he's refusing to discuss it in a sad, fed up huff.

SavageHK - two others in the street are rendered, one is white/chalk and one is cream/light yellow. I'm definitely more into the white than yellow.

well, I am not sure what the problem is, unless it doesn't match render you already have. It looks very nice, and I'm guessing will lighten and fade as it dries through

Using another colour on the back is a bit daft, the join will look odd if you can see it, and surely the front of the house is the most important anyway?

Definitely stick to one colour.
And ask about the colour lightening

First time posting here and I'm hoping someone can help me.

I'm in the process of purchasing a new build, so I'm not dealing directly with the renderer which makes getting information a little bit more tricky... hence me coming here for advice.

My house has just (I don't know exactly when, but within the last week) been rendered with monocouche, which is supposed to be "Ivory/White" colour.

We were told by the sales team that the render would be the same colour as the show home (which I estimate was rendered around 2 years ago).

However when we turned up on Sunday to view the rendering, the colour was somewhat different to that of the show home - much move of a yellowy brown than the creamy white we were expecting.

My question is a simple one I guess: How long should I expect to wait after application for the monocouche render to reach its "final" colour?

the answers were:

about 1-2 days to dry out, but may take a few weeks to 'cure' to the final colour, it holds a lot of water and is lighter once the water has fully gone.

'It will look lighter on the south side than the north'

and looking at your picture I wonder how much lighter it will look once the scaffolding is gone and it isn't in the shadow?

It's just the disconnect between my expectation and the reality plastered all over the front of my lovely house!

Clumsyduck it's a silicon render which sort of repels dirt, but yes, good point - we do live on a fairly busy road which causes dust.

steppemum I really appreciate you googling for me and that gives me a lot of hope. It makes sense that a water based application would dry lighter, just as paint does.
Maybe I'll put off my panic for a couple of weeks time

Ah I see, well honestly I think it looks nice and bright and fresh but it's your home and a big spend I guess so don't be shy to ask about changing if it's what you prefer :)

Looks good to me. I wouldn't say it was a sandy colour and no doubt it will lighten once dried.

Think about how much lighter plaster goes as it dries out. Give it a few days.

It does seem to have lightened a bit this morning, so maybe the evening light made it seem darker plus extra drying time (and your positive comments) has helped.

@skippy67 - I asked this morning, the renderers recons it's about £1000 for that front but the more you have done, the better the price - full three sides wrap around with mesh, beading and monocouche would be about £2600. I think that included scaffold.

DH also had the front of a small terrace rendered for £600 without mesh/beading a few years ago, so price is dependent on the system you want.
