Artex

Hi all
Have any of you bought a house with Artex on the walls/ceilings?
Would it put you off?
Did you have an asbestos survey?
We’ve had an offer accepted on a house which we love but only whilst looking at replastering today did it come up that there may be asbestos in it. We’ve got two kids so are a little worried about this.
We might get a surveyor around and get some quotes for it’s removal. I’m worried it’s going to work out ridiculously expensive.
Any advice would be just appreciated or stories about what you did if you had it and cost.
Many thanks x

We have artex (not our choice!) and had an extension done last year where some of it would be disrupted. We had an asbestos survey done and luckily for us it it didn't contain any.

I think the only thing you can do is try and organise an asbestos test and then think on from there. - it's about £300 I think I paid a couple of years ago.

We have a house with flexible-artex-like ceilings, it just gets painted every other year. We put it up there as we have a house with roof-spread issues - the ceilings crack - so rather than take them down and replace them, we taped and covered - we have now dealt with the roof, but don't yet have the confidence that it would not crack again, so have done nothing about redoing the ceilings yet.

so be aware that artex may not be the full extent of the problems...

Thank you. I think I’ll have to fork out for a survey and go and have another look at the house.
