Best type of carpet for cats and babies?

Hi all,

Looking to change our living room carpet and I need something that is baby and kitty resistant!

I have two very fluffy cats that shed a lot and a 9 month old so I need something that's going to be resistant to stains and fairly heavy traffic, but I also want it to feel quite plush and comfy.

If anyone can recommend a particular brand/make that would be great! Thanks xx

I have bleachable polypropylene carpet. Limited colour choice but plenty of neutrals, it's comfy underfoot (man in the shop says it feels softer the more you vacuum it...haven't really tested this theory out, definitely not the daily he suggested Blush). But the main plus is it is so easy to keep clean. 6 months in and still looks brand brand new.

i was advised that you need to avoid loop pile as the cats claw it to bits. Beyond that - decent underl ay and cheaper carpet for a few years!

I second avoiding loop pile with cats. We once lost our deposit in a rental property due to our cats scratching it and pulling the loops up! Blush

I can't reccommend a brand but also agree on a bleachable man made carpet. definitely avoid wool. In our last property we discovered a carpet moth infestation the first summer we were there. It was horrendous, it took months to sort out and we had to replace all our carrots and soft furnishings. I would never ever go for wool after that ordeal!

Why not get a LVP,/wooden floor as they are easier to clear up after cats and kid? Rugs can be added for comfort and easier to switch around if change of style or too done in to save.

Re PP Shifty, I would love to have a hard wooden flooring in the living room with a nice rug but my DH won't agree to it Envy I've tried the whole easier to clean, maintain etc approach, but he won't have it and says it won't be as comfortable!

We are a family that spends almost as much time sitting in the floor as we do the sofas though, so I suppose he's got a point... either way it's got to be a carpet and I'd like one easy to clean/remove cat hair from and soft and bouncy if possible...!
