Completing before Christmas?

Hi all, I'm new to this section of mumsnet after selling our house in August.
After a few hiccups along get the way, it looks like we may be exchanging and completing before Christmas. However this won't be confirmed until closer to the time.
Has anyone got any advice/ tIps for a move so close to Christmas (we think it might be 8th or 15th).
We haven't even got anything packed or a removal company booked as we were led to believe it would all be happening the new year! Not sure where to start really.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Assuming you aren't thinking of simultaneous exchange and complete - start getting quotes for removals and book provisional dates. Get decluttering and packing.

Find out what else needs to happen before exchange and how long all the things will really take.

Don't hold your breath.

It’s possible, we had a 6 week turn around.

Get quote with removals and tell them the situation, the company I used were super flexible about dates. I also paid them to pack, saved a lot of time and stress with such a shirt turn around.

Thanks for your reply Special.
The EA has mentioned that exchange and completion could be very close together. Haven't bought a property for 15 years, and I can't remember the gap between exchange and completion last time.
Also our buyer, seller and us are all with the same chain of solicitors so think things could move pretty quickly if everyone is in agreement.
Think I'd better start getting some quotes.......

You control completion date, never mind the agents commission. It takes a week to set up a post redirect, longer to get broadband and phone. You cannot arrange anything for definite before exchange.

Take control. You want two weeks unless you really want to make life expensive and difficult.

Thanks Herschellmum, how soon to moving date do they pack everything up? - and do you mind me asking how much it cost?

There is no reason everyone cant agree a date now (accepting that things do change). With everyone using the same solicitor this shouldnt be a problem.

As for packing, our removals came in the day before to pack up. We were in a rental so the day we completed we cleaned furiously and our belongings arrived the next day. You can certainly ask for quotes and provisionally book now.
