secondary glazing anyone?

We moved into a new house about a year ago. It's in a lovely village in a beautiful part of the country and the only issue we have is that it's right on the main road, which is actually quite a busy through route. I'm thinking of ways to reduce the traffic noise as much as possible. We already have double glazing but I'm considering secondary glazing for the bedrooms at the front of the house. Can anyone share experiences with me? Does secondary glazing make a significant difference to noise?

In my last house I had secondary glazing fitted to my double glazed bedroom windows. The bedroom iwas overlooking a busy road and the noise really bothered me. Secondary glazing made a huge difference. I could barely hear the road. I'd definitely recommend it. Just be prepared for the fact that it's pretty ugly. I didn't mind much in the last house because the windows were ugly plastic anyway. But in our new house with beautiful period windows, I'm reluctant to get it (although the noise - planes - is only bad a couple of days a month rather than constant like the last house).
