Mystery parcel (empty property) scam? any ideas

I own a house that has been empty pending sale. Sales on the property have fallen through twice with separate buyers due to financial problems on their side, or chain collapse. One person asked me to keep it for 6 months and then let me down. So, we have decided to move to the property as a family home which will be happening soon. It has been empty, unfurnished for 2 years+ as a result of above saga, but garden is tended to periodically and it doesn't look abandoned. It is mortgage-free as I have used savings to pay for it, and it has deeds registered at the Land Registry.

There is not much mail going to the property since it comes to my current address, and the junk/ flyers are cleared out every couple of weeks. Council tax etc send mail to my current address. Last week My Hermes put a parcel through the door without the name of any occupant on it. So, opened it and inside is a piece of cardboard and nothing else. No details of sender on the packet, just cardboard. Put the bar code in the online courier tracker and it just confirms delivery to letterbox. My Hermes won't say where it was sent from, or by whom due to data protection.

I am updating my contact details with the Land Registry to prevent fraud as it has spooked me a bit. Anyone have any clue what this could be about...someone forked out £2.90 to send cardboard to the address...?

Hermes won't help you as their contract is with the sender. What would anybody have to gain by sending an empty box to an unoccupied address? They get a delivery confirmation for a tracking number and they are scamming people who buy goods from them on eBay, for example. The sender is a fraudster making money out of unsuspecting buyers.

Someone checking to see if the house is empty either for some reason.
