When to start packing for to move?

We've sold our house and had an offer accepted on ours. Solicitors all doing what they need to do. Looking at a 1 November completion date.

Just not sure when to start packing? As early as possible but then don't want to tempt fate! Help!

If you have exchanged already then I would say now is as a good a time as any. At least the things that you don't use every day.

If you have not exchanged then wait till after.

3 months ago! If you've a lot of stuff try reading Marie kondo first & maybe get rid of some then do a spreadsheet & pack what you don't need for a while to start with.

Best of luck!

We're in similar position, don't have a completion date yet but also aiming for October half term. We started packing this past weekend. DH started going through the loft so we can get rid of all the stuff we don't want or need, and also did his bookshelves. We're planning to take our time and do a few boxes every weekend until we have dates, then see what's left and plan accordingly.

I also wouldn't pack until after exchange, but I think I'd use this time to have a massive clear out. Shred all old documents I didn't need anymore, give all the clothes I didn't wear to charity, etc. Also if there's anything you can organise like putting loose photos into albums, or filing bits and bobs. I think this will make the whole process of packing a lot easier when you come to do it.

Start now - it means you can be careful and thorough, and choose what to give away/ditch!

Start with things you don't need every day - the bookshelves, the ornaments, etc. Go through all the accumulated paperwork you have cluttering up the place and only keep what you need.

Honestly, this makes moving house so much nicer, having a stack of completed boxes of stuff you want to keep accumulating in a corner of the living room in a very satisfying way.

Your future self will thank your present self!
