Black window frames?

Hi,

Starting a new build and thinking about window frames, both external and internal.

Has anyone here installed black frames, either inside or out? We were originally going to go with dark grey, but an interiors person I spoke to was trying to convince me to go with black - less likely to date, and more versatile if trying to change the colour scheme in the future.

The outside of the house will be white render, with zinc and cedar cladding. Inside will be contemporary, but cosy (I hope!) See some examples below. I'm not going for crittal style, they'll be regular windows.

I'm also wondering if it's an option to do one wall of windows in black (namely a large sliding door and a huge fixed window with window seat beside it) and the rest in off white or something neutral?

Any comments?

Thanks

We've gone black, looks fab ! Agree it won't date and can go with a multitude of interior and exterior colours !

Thanks 36plus, don't suppose you have any photos?

Hi,

We went with black windows to the rear of our house. I wanted to match it with some crittal style doors and I love them. Agree they won't date like grey.

I have some (not many pictures if you'd like to PM me).

Love love love the black window frames. Works best with big windows I think.

It's quite 50's/60's I think? So if it was ever dated it is back in now! I might be biased but I grew up in a MCM architectural house with black windows. Beautiful.

Oh I so read the title of this thread wrong.... My blood ran cold for a moment!

I'm not a fan of grey or silver window frames as i think they're likely to look very dated very quickly like those really old windows with metal frames that you occasionally see from 70s/80s. Black however, I think that could actually stand the test of time

Great to hear such positive opinions!

Does anyone have any comments on whether they need to be aluminium, would painted aluclad have the same effect?

Also, what about mixing colours in one room? Could that work?

Cheers

Yes to black window frames, we converted a barn type building with back timber cladding and have put in black framed Ali Windows, works very well, this summer I've also repainted all of the sash windows and doors on the origional part of the house in F&B Railing which is a soft black. It ties the house together really well and looks so much better than when they were white.
