Best DIY guide?

I am very keen to do some minor DIY in my house but I have absolutely no practical experience. Can anyone recommend a good general guide that assumes no prior knowledge? I have a book from DH but it is quite incomprehensible because of the lingo.

The kind of things I'm looking to do would be to move kitchen cupboards, paint kitchen cupboards, install an extractor fan, take out a stud wall and fix the hole using plasterboard, put up shelves and make some changes to our deck layout (building stairs and railings).

YouTube always does the job for me Grin

I've consulted YouTube for some things but there are always so many different videos to go through and sometimes I don't necessarily know what to search for. I guess I'm old school (or just old).

This is excellent! <a class="break-all" href="//www.amazon.co.uk/Collins-Complete-Manual-Albert-Jackson-x/dp/0007425953?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">//www.amazon.co.uk/Collins-Complete-Manual-Albert-Jackson-x/dp/0007425953?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

You Tube too!

Second the Collins - covers absolutely everything (and is so thick I have occasionally found it useful as a sort of mini stepladder)

We also have the Collins one recommended above - it's great!

Ultimate Handyman straight forward. Or Plumberparts for plumbing stuff.

What is you want to do? We find YouTube better because it demonstrates so clearly the step by step process.

But we also like DIY Doctor (we have met him at a home building and renovation show) he has a website, book and YouTube channel.

Thanks for those! I like the look of the Collins book and will bookmark the you tube channels. Between them I will hopefully muddle through!
