How long does it take the solicitor to complete searches?

I know it depends on the area, solicitor and circumstances. But from your own experience how long did it take for them to come back?

I am a first time buyer but our solicitor isn't giving us any timelines. The searches were submitted last week. How long should I expect to wait?

Your solicitor should know how long the council usually take. It varies wildly. If the solicitor is too busy to talk to you, ring the council and ask for a rough timescale.

Every local authority is different and the difference is massive. My local authority is working at around 2 weeks but I do know some at over a month.

The only one that takes any time is the local search. The others should come back quickly as they're usually done via a search company now. The local search could take as little as 10 days but usually 2-3 weeks, sometimes a bit more but that's less common now.

It's not the solicitor taking the time: they submit the search requests to third parties, and have no control over how long those take.

Allow 3-4 weeks for the results usually, but it does vary massively by area and how busy the relevant third parties are.

Correct, solicitor has no control but should know average times.
